I like some bitters too. By the time you add that and sweet tonic water, good gin is a waste to me. But then I feel that way about all mixed drinks- save the good stuff for when drinking neat, up etc.
Agree on all counts. I'm partial to tonic in 12 oz cans to guarantee fizziness. And New Amsterdam has been my go-to gin and tonic gin.

Why is this thread still going? It was settled: Bombay Sapphire, Schweppes, and 2 limes.

Influenced by some earlier post here, I'm giving Q tonic a try today with the Hendricks. I have to say, it's worthy, quite worthy. Dry and smooth.

And rereading this thread was pretty amusing, it was a good one.

    Schweppes?! Sapphire?

Don't get me wrong, I divorce my wife every time she wastes our money on Q or Fever Tree, but they're sooooo much better. Anyone who can't immediately recognize that either hasn't had them sober or has a broken palate.

    Sapphire is lighter fluid.

If Hendricks and Q doesn't make the best GT you ever had, you're not squeezing enough lime.

Basically, if you disagree with me, you're wrong and not entitled to your own opinion. Also, there's only one way to settle this.

Making your own tonic syrup trumps all though.

I must admit, I haven't actually tried the combo of Cucumber vomit and Q-tip orange smegma, so who knows?

But two abortions do not make a Rhodes scholar.

Yes, I believe that was implied.

I also feel like I should say that it looks like there are a lot of solid suggestions for even higher-end ingredients in this thread. I'm sure there are even better combos to be discovered. My vitriol is directed at Schweppes/Sapphire (or tanq) as some sort of benchmark.

If I'm running out to quickly grab stuff that's always in stock and always available in 1.5l bottles (or 1.75l), it's Hendricks. If cost was a consideration, beefeater, or something local.

I'd like to try the homemade route for the tonic. Tried it with ginger beer and didn't get close enough to fever tree to keep trying.

Glendalough wild botanical, fever tree and...grapefruit.

Not proper, but this grapefruit thing might just be a nice alternative this summer.

The glendalough bottle worked out well too.

I just want to say that a Botanist + Fever Tree g&t, with lots of ice in a tall glass, in the shade, after working in the sun all day is pretty f’n sublime. But you probably knew that.

So's an Old Raj Martini with nothing more than homeopathy levels of vermouth, but that's another thread.

I'm sure it's been said before, but the correct gin & tonic is the one that is is right in front of you.
Beautiful day up the Skagit today, had to attack the compound hard,as it is getting unruly fast. Sore as fuck. A G&T was in order. Let the season begin.

I think I cycled through a few weeks of fresh-squeezed margaritas but it was only around 72-75 the whole time.

Now that I’ve been to a baseball game and the temp hit a zero-humidity 81, it is officially G&T, sorry, Beefeater and tonic season.

    Cheers

I believe I have already posted this, but for all of you troglodytes and posers, here is the answer:

    Chimney glass

    Ice

Beefeaters....just the regular, about 2 oz.

Good basic tonic. Small bottle Schweppes is fine.

    Big squeeze of lime.

Two shakes of Fee Brothers Orange bitters.

    Done

    The best

    The end

Ahhh Schweppes is crap, at least get some fever tree or Q.
Port chilkoot gin will greatly improve your drink.
The orange bitters are a nice touch!
