Alright, I know I can sit down and do COS and SIN and finger it out, but I thought I would just ask some opinions of more seasoned roadies. What angle to you think this stem is sitting right now? It is a 56cm CracknFail CAAD 4. I believe the HT angle is 73 deg. When it was flipped it looked like it was at 0 deg, but I can't remember. I am trying to buy a new stem and am getting freaking confused by all the 74/16, -7 degree. I am thinking the stem on there now as it sits is 17 degrees; 73/17 if it was 0 degrees to start with. What does the collective think?
Road stems traditionally were -17 degrees, to give a horizontal look to the stem when on the bike. After threadless steerers came along, that standard stayed (more or less), with the obvious addition of being able to flip the stem to a +17 rise. 0 degree and 20 degree stems are also common.
Since what you have there isn't a 0 degree, I'd say it's either 17 or 20, flipped. The head angle is probably around 72-73 degrees. You'll have to do the math from this point on... (looking up the stem for the exact rise and the C'dale for the head angle would help too; I'm just guesstimating based on typical road bike angles)
