Man uses Halifax ferry as getaway vehicle after allegedly robbing Tim Hortons, Eh.

    https://atlantic.ctvnews.ca/mobile/m...tons-1.3906416

A man who allegedly robbed a Tim Hortons in Dartmouth has learned the hard way that boarding a ferry isn’t exactly the most effective getaway plan.

Halifax Regional Police responded to a report of a robbery at the Tim Hortons at 180 Wyse Road at 6:45 p.m. Friday.

Police say a man entered the coffee shop and demanded cash, telling the staff he had a firearm, although no firearm was seen.

The man was arrested at the Alderney Ferry Terminal in Dartmouth a short time later.

Police say the man had boarded the Halifax-bound ferry, but the vessel returned to the dock at the request of police, and with the assistance of Halifax Transit.

The man was taken into custody. No firearm was located.

Police say the incident is under investigation. There is no word on possible charges at this time.

Montreal-area high school gives students expired condoms.

    https://www.ctvnews.ca/mobile/health...doms-1.3910758

Montreal-area high school has come under fire for handing out long-expired condoms to a group of students.

“It’s a mistake,” Eric Ladouceur of the Des Affluents School Board told CTV Montreal. “No doubt about that -- it’s a mistake.”

On April 25, as part of an ethics and religion class at Armand-Corbeil Secondary School in Terrebonne, a Montreal suburb, health officials came by to hand out condoms. Some students, however, soon discovered that they had expired in 2015.

Those students took to social media to warn their peers against using them. Over the following two days, the school then sent out emails to students and their parents.

“We reacted very (quickly) to be sure that the students were not using the condoms,” Ladouceur said. “And we don't have any information that students used the wrong condom.”

Health Canada advises against using expired condoms, saying that “their effectiveness cannot be guaranteed.” Planned Parenthoodsays that “expired condoms are more likely to break, which can result in pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections.”

CTV Montreal spoke to one mother whose daughter received an expired condom. The woman was furious, saying that in an attempt to talk about prevention, the school ended up putting kids at risk.

Health officials from Quebec’s Lanaudiere region were responsible for the mishap. They told CTV Montreal that they recently changed where they stored their condoms, and that somehow an old box which should have been thrown out got mixed in with news ones. The problem was not spotted, they say, because only the individual condoms had an expiry date, whereas their box did not. School board officials say that only 20 expired condoms were distributed.

One student, who spoke to CTV Montreal on condition of anonymity, pointed out the irony of the situation.

“They talk about safety, what we should do, should not do, how we should use condoms,” the student said. “And then they give us expired condoms.”

Police have ruled out foul play in the case of the body of a man found inside a wall in a public washroom at a mall in downtown Calgary on Monday.

The death has been ruled accidental, Calgary Police Service said in a release issued early Wednesday afternoon.

The discovery was made about 9:30 a.m. in the fourth floor washroom at the Core shopping centre at Seventh Avenue and Third Street S.W., police said, when a maintenance worker tried fix a toilet that wouldn't flush in the women's washroom.

Man whose body was found in washroom wall was not victim of foul play, Calgary police say.

Man whose body was found in washroom wall was not victim of foul play, Calgary police say a shopping mall maintenance worker, called to fix a toilet, made the gruesome discovery.

Police have ruled out foul play in the death of a man whose body was found inside a wall in a public washroom at a mall in downtown Calgary on Monday.

The death has been ruled accidental, Calgary Police Service said in a statement issued early Wednesday afternoon.

Police believe the man, who was in his 20s, climbed into the women's washroom wall alone last Friday, but they don't know why.

The body was removed from the Core shopping centre Monday afternoon.

Police believe the man, whose name is not being released, got inside the wall by climbing something called "a pony wall," used to hide utilities directly behind the toilets. It's not connected to the ceiling and instead has a vent cover on top.

Police believe the man climbed through the vent opening, got stuck and later died.

A maintenance worker made the gruesome discovery at about 9:30 a.m. on Monday in the fourth floor washroom at the Core shopping centre at Seventh Avenue and Third Street S.W., police said.

The worker was called to fix a toilet that wouldn't flush in the women's washroom. The staffer took a panel off the washroom wall in order to look inside — and found the body.

The washroom was closed Monday afternoon as police investigated and the Calgary Fire Department helped remove the body. The provincial medical examiner also attended the scene and later performed an autopsy.

Man filmed trying to steal gosling from Stanley Park could face fines

    https://bc.ctvnews.ca/mobile/man-fil...ines-1.3919342

A man captured on cellphone camera appearing to "steal" a gosling from Vancouver's Stanley Park could face fines for his bizarre actions.

James Beer told CTV News he recorded the video Friday near Lost Lagoon after witnessing a cyclist attempting to take the gosling. Beer said he saw the stranger stomp at the gosling's parents to chase them off before picking up one of the palm-sized baby birds.

He said he heard the man say he was going to take the bird home, then saw him put it in his shirt.

Beer then took out his phone and confronted the person, saying, "Put it back, dude. Put it back. I've got you on camera."

The man is seen lowering the chirping bird to the ground, then the gosling scampers back to its parents.

"It's not a toy, it's a living creature," Beer says, then calls the man a "scumbag."

Beer pours into Victoria street after tank bursts at brewery

    https://vancouverisland.ctvnews.ca/m...wery-1.3934691

A Victoria street turned into a river of beer after a tank reportedly burst at a downtown brewery.

Reports surfaced around 2:45 that a tank burst at Phillips Brewery on Government Street at Pembroke Street.

Staff members could be seen outside the brewery with a hose, trying to direct the stream of suds into a storm drain with brooms.

They told a CTV camerman that the spill was caused by a valve issue.

It's unclear how much beer was lost in the incident.

Those living near the brewery reported a strong smell of beer in the air as the mess was cleaned up.
