First thunderstorm of the spring. That's a very large dog under a very small desk.

Two dogs, actually. But they abandoned me for the chance of kitchen scraps.

By nothing more than coincidence, I haven't been flying since before this whole thing started, and was doing a ground-based job that has since evaporated. My wife now describes me as "Cleo's butler"

    That's Cleo on the right

As for the airlines, this is going to be another 911/SARS event. More than a dozen flight attendants have died from Covid-19 related illnesses. I don't know any yet, but it's likely that a lot of pilots will be positive due to the impossibility of adequate distance from each other.

Thousands of crew members will be furloughed/layed-off. There will be bankruptcies, and there will be lots of lawsuits. My friends who are still working are just barely working due to the massive reduction of flights, and rescheduling to avoid layovers.

I honestly don't see myself going back.

Just airlines. After 9/11 I was off for three years. I've got other things I can do.

A few months ago I went down the rabbit hole listening to sketchy situations played out over ATC communications. Not recommended. Other things to do may be a good thing.

Sketchy situations due to Covid? Kinda curious now.

@AD, no, not AS, and I'd like to keep my employer's name under my hat (on the public internet at least - I'd tell you privately if you cared). Their social media policy is basically 'stay off it'.

Airlines are toast. Delta refunded me for our trips immediately, but Air France and Norwegian sent us the "Checks in the Mail" email, so I asked the trip insurance company to refund it. We will see what happens. I have 3 neighbors that are pilots. The 2 FEDX guys are still busy and the United pilot is furloughed with a new $2M house loan to pay
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

Friend of mine is a SLC based Delta pilot, just made captain a year or so ago. He is working very little.

@mazderati, while insanely scary, the number of those types of incidents is infinitesimal compared to the over 100,000 airline flights per day, every day, worldwide (well... not anymore, but still).

Yeah, yeah, I know all the stats and will have to fly again at some point. But, it would be a lot more comfortable for me if I could sit in the cockpit, breathe down the pilots' necks, and question every move made.

or hours of boredom punctuated by inane conversation.

I'm guessing you've probably seen this, but 2:35 to 3:21 is dead-on accurate.

    Actually, it's all accurate.

Thanks Ted, good to hear you’re safe and have options.

Really cool moonrise at the top of the street tonight. Couldn’t quite capture the clouds, sliver of a moon, Venus and the Georgia Pine all in one shot, but you get it. Nice and warm too. Good clear you head kind of dog walk.

I'm used to the heavily sugared cereals of my youth, so even now I like to put some of that sweet stuff on top of my Cheerios. I haven't seen toys inside cereal in a while and it brought back memories of digging around in the bottom of a new box of cereal for the toy. Sponge Bob came in a double cellophane bag and was outside the cereal bag right on top. They're taking the fun out of everything nowadays.
