I was talking with one of the trucking company guys after we had it out and told him to leave it right there, put a thick coat of paint on 'er and hang a for sale sign. This guy figures it was likely a fuel leak...first fire fighter was POV and said flames were crazy high, the first called department didn't respond so we headed over. Was a fun little diversion.
Driver said he thought there was a coolant leak as he was coming up the canyon so pulled into the side road, walked up to the house to use the phone and when he came back it was burning. Fortunately we were able to keep the exposures of trees and grass on the uphill side from catching. There's a house not too far off to the left, but things are still really green.
Strong work....We went from spring-like to Africa hot in like a week...100+ every day this week, had a duplex go up last night and there's a motherfucker burning up north in the Jemez......... Looking like a long, hot summer. Oh, and no matter how hot and dry it is, I guarantee 4th of July will look and sound like downtown Beirut here in Albuquerque, so there's that to look forward to.......
What we have here is an intelligence failure. You may be familiar with staring directly at that when shaving. .

Hard to believe about a month ago we had 30" of snow on the ground.
Fuel moistures are near record lows even with that heavy wet snow and a few fully washers since. I'd say we're above average for precip here in the foothills and only 1/2" below at DIA.
It's been a lot of fun and work. Only second summer into it. Just finished up CO FF1 certification, hazmat ops and EMR. Along with FF II wildland of course. Had two structure fires, two vehicle fires, a bunch of smallish wildland fires and a few prescribed burns including one where I put a bunch of fire on the ground.
Fortunately CO law is strict on fireworks and we'll likely be close to some type of fire bans in areas which will raise awareness.
