I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Okay, I was thinking we were just looking at a really icy road. It is actually a skating track. I haven't seen anything like that before, but seems fun.

I just drove under that "lid" a couple weeks ago. Seems to be progressing nicely. The thing that drives me nuts is why is the speed limit on 520 eastbound 40 mph until about mid-span? It's a multi-lane, limited access highway with a 40 mph limit. Everyone's driving 60 anyway, so it just doesn't make any sense to me.

Two thoughts - the bridge is weak and the lower speed limit reduces dynamic loads, so it won't fall down before they fix it. Or maybe just because construction. Slow traffic lets trucks enter/exit safely.

The speed limit extends well beyond where there is any construction. That was my first thought, too, because I could see where they'd want a lower speed limit in the construction zone.

The bridge is all new from lake floor up. I suspect the speed zone is temporary for workers. Most of the work has transitioned to the lids and street, adjoining the bridge, but there once was many workers active in that zone. Even I go 60 through there and about 50 in a worktruck.
The complex and bike paths will be very nice though. It’s been fun working on something that I will use for the next half century.

Is that geo foam going in? I am assuming it is going into retaining will fill? I have never seen foam go into an actual bridge structure?

You know, even if it’s not perfect, it’s gonna be so great when this is done. I’ve been driving through that intersection to get to UW etc. since about 1990 and it’s always just sucked so bad. Also I 90 through Snoqualmie and East is so nice now after all those years of shit and now they’re finally going to do the stretch through Easton and I just can’t wait.
