    Davos Switzerland - Beta needed

So my sis-in-law is a nanny for some ultra rich type in Davos and apparently they live about 50 yards from a ski lift. Most of what I've found leeds me to believe that Davos and the surrounding ski areas are pretty tame. BUT, with mountains for miles, how's the touring? Mrs Powstash and I are planning a trip to visit next winter and since I'm using sky miles I've gotta get the requests in soon. (and cause I'm twitching and can't stop thinking of skiing)

We're likely to spend 3-4 days in Davos but are flexible to hit up another locale or two for a total of 10 days in Euro. Any ideas or beta on Davos is appreciated.

davos itself is not my cup of tea, but engelberg, andermatt, st anton, are all at hand in 1-2 hours. plenty of time to look for a good car rental, cuz trains are OK but can be very expensive

I did a season in Davos, here is some info from my site:

    http://www.pistehors.com/articles/davos.htm.

Pischa may close down next year which is a bummer as there is some good lift served off-piste on the northern slopes down to Klosters. Classic tours are St Antonien and of course the grand-daddy of ski touring: Frauenkirche to Arosa - first done by Mr Conan-Doyle in the 1890s.

Oh being a real town the beer is some of the cheapest of the big resorts.

when i lived in zurich, i went to davos at least a couple dozen times and never had a bad day there. pretty tame on top but the descents to the valley can be pretty sweet. klosters has some great tree skiing, pischa and jakobshorn have some very nice and easily accessible offpiste routes. i never did any but the touring must be fantastic there - the 360 panorama there is one of the best in the alps. close to davos is lenzerheide, valbella, flims-laax, and arosa, all worthy of a visit. eberg, a-matt, and stanton are a bit further but easily doable if the roads are good. hopefully, they won't be.

I had a decent time in davos back in March 2002 -
spent less than 2 days there, so can't talk much about it, the town was somewhat interesting, we did a little offpiste stuff that wasn't bad, but I'd have to say I like St. Anton better.

I know we took a funicular partway up the hill one night to have fondue in this mountain side cabin/restaurant. that was a lot of fun.

    here are some pics.

according to well informed sources there actually IS pretty sick offpiste terrain if you hike a bit and don't descend the standard routes.
i read it in a german mag somewhere but im not sure where those runs begin or end.
but beware offpiste ist backcountry and people get buried quite regulary in davos..(so the terrain can'tbe all that tame... <30-35°)
It's a war of the mind and we're armed to the teeth.
