TR Round Top, June 11, 2005

What a great way to start my summer vacation. I skied Round Top with my friend MJ. MJ (non-maggot) had his new tele skis. I had my Bros, but still don't have skins yet. So I slow-shoed my way up. I also have slow dial-up access, so I'm including a mix of a few pictures with links to other pictures if you would like to see more.
Here is a link to a couple of pictures near Winnemucca Lake:
On the way to Round Top
    MJ skiing Round Top:

A link to three more pictures in the sequence:
MJ skiing Round Top (4 pictures)
    MJ takes an interesting line:

Gratuitous Bro shot (they helped me easily blast through avalanche debris):

Me making "fresh tracks" in four day old corn (it snowed a few inches up there on Tuesday):

MJ on the way back. (we skied from upper looker's right to right underneath Round Top):

    NICE!

And wow, Crescent still looks pretty skiable.

How far is the snowline from the car?

Sweet! I always wanted to hit that while I lived in Boregon, which, apparently, would have been less boring if I had figured out how to get to Round Top in the early summer. That corn looks SICK.

Yes, Crescent looked skiable in terms of coverage. The entrance might be somewhat interesting. It looked like a little huck to a shaded area. I did ski through some of Crescent's avy debris. The chute that angles up to looker's left of Crescent also looked very tempting (wider than Crescent, it is hidden by rocks in the photo.)
The snowline was about 20 yards from the Carson Pass parking lot.
We left my car at the beginning of Woods Lake road (snow blocked the road about 100 yards in from Hwy. 88 - some drifts were over 6 feet) so that we could ski down past Woods Lake (following the blue diamond cross country trail) and do a shuttle.

You know, if your not talking snow, "four day old corn" is pretty darn nasty

    Yes.
    Yes.
Yes, it would be great to ski with you again. We didn't get a chance to ski together enough this winter.
I'll probably be heading up to Sonora Pass tomorrow with our three dogs for a few lower intensity runs. School's Out For Summer, so I'm up for skiing almost any day.
Yes. Since it looks like I won't be able to make it for the 18th, the 25th would be better. I'm more interested in Lassen. What should be more reliable weather, slightly closer (though still a relatively long drive), and the possibility of a partial car shuttle make it more appealing.
