Sports make you feel emotions that are in no way connected to any action on your own part. They trick you into carrying a torch for your entire life only to be left at the altar year after year. They make you believe things that aren’t true, take precautions and adopt superstitions that only an insane man could appreciate.
But the worst is that they make you believe. Believe In destiny, in fate, in things grown men and women aren’t supposed to believe in, like love and Santa Claus. And though it should come as no surprise to anyone, you’re stood up again on the night before the big dance, and Santa skipped your house again this year.
Sports fucking suck.
I still call it The Jake.
In our defense, we tried to warn you about elevated expectations during that streak. It was done out of love.
A decent read...

When it comes to firing MLB managers, nobody really knows what they are doing
One snippet:
Far more than in any other sport, baseball's playoffs are as close to random as you'll ever see. The best team often loses. Wild cards can and have won it all. Momentum going into the playoffs means absolutely nothing. It's scary as hell to imagine a world in which dumb luck -- players suddenly going hot (or cold) at exactly the right (or wrong) time -- would decide championships. But that's baseball.
If it makes you feel better, 1997 really hurt.

Cmon Cubs!
Still strange to see an implosion in a cubs game not being committed by the cubs.
Lol, whatever gets you through October.

I've always been a big Astros guy

Really? Never liked 'em. Hated the colorful unis, the Astrodome, never liked any of the the players, the city, the state, or the people in them. Hell I even hate the wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Houston_Astros
However, they are good. And I like them more than I like the Yankees, so let's go 'Stros!
So it's a liking the enemy of your enemy thing? They just smoked your ass in the first round, but on the other hand I guess it would validate some of pain.

Oh, exactly. No bones about it.
Bagwell was always one of my faves as well as the Ryan years. Though the actual city of Houston I found miserable. I find myself really liking the teams with exciting young players (Yankees excepted of course, but still can respect them), and Houston has a nice core of them.
I'm kidding...the fucking astros?
When I was a kid we'd always hit astros spring training in Kissimmee (a dump) because we had a relative on the coaching staff but I was never a caminiti/biggio/bagwell guy
At least they're pretty fucking good. Go stros!
