Alta Report 6-12-05 (3" of new)

3" of new and some sensitive wind slabs up high. Ski cut a nice 8" deep by 30ft. wide avy in the middle of the Sugarloaf couloir that ran a couple hundred feet. Odd to think of slab avies in June.

Quickie clip of some turns from today.

Here I am just waking up and trackhead has already gone up to the mountain, filmed some footage, probably made several laps, drove back home, edited said footage, posted, probably had breakfast, etc....

Damn, I have to stop staying up so late.

There was easily 4-6" above 11,500K yesterday. I want spring corn back though. This gloomy weather sucks.

as hard as the snow was coming down while we were skiing yesterday afternoon I thought for sure it would have accumulated more than that overnight. I'm surprised.

Hard to complain about new snow in June though. Except that it does insulate the snow from refreezing sometimes.

Yikes, skied a Little Chute off Baldy today. It was nuking up there. We were standing around waiting for a visibility window when Dave reached down to buckle his boot.... A buzzing sound began, and a couple seconds later Dave said "My boot just shocked me!" We got off that ridge in record time. We got a couple windslabs to go with ski cuts, and the chute skied pretty well, at least for the most part. Still a little freaked about the near lightning strike though, that could have easily been the real deal. We were definitely the tallest points around right then. I've got a couple pictures and a short video clip of the gnar conditions on top of Baldy I'll put up in a bit.

Did Red give you the evil eye for going skiing without her?
She always sniffs my legs and feet then glares at me if I go off playing and leave her behind.
Or if I come home late at night.

Here's a few seconds of video from the top today. We were cracking up because it felt like a winter blizzard up there. I wish summer wasn't upon us already...

She's playing ball all day long and hiking nearly every day. But yeah, her and Fritz are plotting against me right now. Too bad she isn't allowed at Alta.
