Yeah, baby! Cam exemplified what made hockey players different that other pro athletes. He was just a regular guy happy to lace 'em up every day. Two moments that stand out are the goal that is on everyone's best goal highlight reel and his interview when he anounced his retirement.

50 in 44, actually, in 1994. Guy could dangle all over, then come back and beat your ass. This was a no-brainer, IMO. But I'm biased.

Hockey term. You say that around here and nobody knows what you're talking about. Funny how many "hardcore" and "knowledgable" Av fans don't even know who Cam is and were booing icing back in the late 99s [/bandwagon rant]

He is the reason I started playing hockey. There are so few like him now, maybe Iginla, but can't think of many more.

50 in 44 is NOT a regular guy, regardless of the era in which he played. Glad to hear he got is props.
I went out there in search of experience. To taste, and to touch, and to feel as much as a man can, before he repents.

Very pumped for him. He was a hockey player, in every sense of the word.

Also notable was his work outside of hockey. The money he's raised for the Cam Neely foundation (and house) is astounding. He got two of his comedy shows picked up by comedy central. Not bad.

I got your back Ice. I threw a beer at him in the Civic Center once, and I'm a Whalers fan. Samuleson is a dick of the highest order. I know he's your boy.

Definitely earned his place beside the greats.

No pics of him rampaging in the stands?

If he weren't playing for the Bs he would have been wearing an orange vest and working on the big dig. Only recent player to come close is Tkachuk, and he's still short about 20% of the soft hands.

I am happy for Neely he was a great player. I am really pissed with the selection commitee though for not bringing in Glenn Anderson. The guy was an amazing player always got the goal when you needed it and has now been on the nomination for 5 years. All the guys he played with in Edmonton are in the hall or on the way when they retire, he has 5 cups for god sakes. Why do they do this to him? I know he was never a media darling and after he retired he moved to the Caribbean (or somewhere around there) but the man can play the game and isn't that what the hall is about, your contribution to hockey. I know for a fact he made the game more exciting and got kids to play.
Move along nothing to see here.

He definitely deserves the Hall, but fuck did I hate him as a player.

And Foggy, I couldn't disagree with you more about Ulfie. If he were a Ranger or a Bruin, all you would hear about is how much of a hard-nosed player he was. But since he played for small market teams against the New York and Boston media circus's (and got the better of them quite often), all you hear about is how dirty is was. Neely is a prime example of that. He had a cheap streak every bit as long as Samuelson's.

I actually hate him on a personal level (he lived in the same condo complex as my friend and many other Whalers). But you're right, his actions were no different than many others in the league. Not to cunt up Cam's thread, but Ronnie Francis...there's a play. And what about the LEGs line, I'm getting all misty eyed over hear for a soft pretzel and the mall.

Sadly, the Mall is no more. I was home in March, and they tore down the "mall" portion of the Civic Center and are building apartments. Which somehow makes more sense than giving people a tax break to fix up some of the empty classic brick structures around the civic center, like they did in New Haven.

Anyway... sorry to continue the cunting. Back on topic. I loved the ESPNews ad he did. "Look at me now. Gardening! Wanna kick my dog while you're here?"

    Congrats, Cam,

Thank you KD, my thoughts exactly. Ulf rules.

Neely is a class act though, he deserves it.

The pitcher was sliced open and had to leave the game. If you look up the definition of "dirty" in the dictionary, there's a picture of Ty Cobb.
