And afterwards you wake up with your pants around your ankles wondering what the hell happened

Hmmm there was an anesthesiologist who put me out when I had my last one. Took me from my little room to the operating area, connected a line up to my IV, asked me a couple of dumb questions, then I came to in my little room where I started.

Was like orthopedic surgery except this time I didn’t come out all bandaged up.

Just last year, I had a crna and propofol for mine. It was dreamy, way better than being semi- conscious.

I should have said an anesthesiologist isn't needed. Any doctor who performs procedures can be certified to do conscious sedation. The doc can choose not to get certified in which case a CNA or anesthesiologist would do it. And if there's a separate fee involved, why not? In fact a hospital can require it, not because it's medically necessary but for the fee. Also, if the procedure is done in a hospital instead of an outpatient center they can charge a lot more.

Sounds like Florida doc was doing it himself which would have been fine, if he wasn't deaf.

While I'm ranting about overcharging in medicine--in my kids Nevada hospital a trauma CT of torso and head could be done with one injection, one pass. New radiology group took over and now it's two injections, two scanner pass=double radiation, double fee.

Same for me. Can’t guarantee I wasn’t semi-conscious but forgot (because I would have forgotten), but that wasn’t how it was explained.

(A few months ago, at Tahoe Forrest).

Now that you mention it, I think I've had mine done both ways, with and without an anesthesiologist. I've had a lot, they've all kind of blurred together. I do have memories of getting light and seeing my interior colon on the monitor, as well as trying to rip out my tube for an upper GI endoscopy/biopsy.

Then you should sue--it shouldn't be painful. See above.

Sad. Most stories from Florida are sad. But since the guy was from VT, it felt close to home.

    We now have VT Man.

Jack was a great guy! Used to. Organize a bunch of races in southern VT. He will be missed. Legend.
