    Bath Fitters

we like our small bathroom but have an old tub with tile walls in need of help. this seems like a quick, somewhat inexpensive fix - plus I don't feel like putting in the time for retiling since it's our only bathroom in the house. anyone with experience in this system? http://www.wearetheperfectfit.com/?p...3&ldsrc_n=7303

How is this thing any different than the ones at Home Depot ? Plus Home Depot has Mexicans in the parking lot who will do the installation for cheap.

Have a friend the the tub refinish business and he says these are not a good option. Often leak and the Lazer fit is for the most part BS. They measure and then pick a stock piece that is the closest fit. So, not that much different then Home Depot.

I would spend the money and re-tile. It will be nicer in the long run rather then cheap plastic.

Sounds like you would retile yourself. Spend the time and do it right. Does the tub need refinishing as well?

I didn't even read past "we like"
    That was off putting

Now that I have, there is no question or inquiry, just some pity story about tile.

Are you getting a new tub? Do you like baths?

Just get some great stuff and spray around the gaps

How do you keep a wife and mistress happy picking out cheap Home Depot plastic shower walls? Most of them love picking out spendy tile at Best Tile.

I would think the especially since it is your only bathroom you'd want it to be done right with style which IMO would be taking the time to retile and maybe upgrade the vanity, sink, toilet but yeah... money......

What about just putting up vinyl floor tile and caulking the seams?

Maybe you could do it piecemeal. Get the tile done now and the other as your budget allows. You can probably pick up nice discount tile somewhere around where you live. Might have to use two different types that you can work into a neat pattern/border but def. doable as it seems like there are places specializing in remnants all over the place.

Seriously, it would be a good investment. IMO, dated bathrooms are just depressing. I know, I've lived with them.

Edit: This might sound funny but have you ever watched "Texas Flip & Move"? These people buy small movable houses in areas being gentrified and move them to lots where they reno them. It's not a bad show. What I like about it is how they are able to look at a house and envision something entirely different. The bathroom remodels are esp. interesting in their use of remnants and refinishing products. They really make the most of small spaces giving them the illusion of being bigger than they are and as I said, using multiple types of tile and flooring to save money.

Laser measurement should be worth a bunch of extra money, as nobody that is a good contractor can read and use a standard tape measure (ducking if you can't read the sarcasm).

As for the same day service, demo of the existing title and then installing the fiberglass or plastic tub insert can be done in a day- ASSUMING there is no plaster or major damage to the wall material behind the titles that take either replacing the wall board, or re-plastering (which would then require drying time before the new tub surround can be put in. Gluing to a disintegrated wall behind the title due to water damage will be a failure. If the wall board has to be replaced, go ahead and look at better alternatives such as green board that are more moisture resistant than standard dry wall.
