    He was the celebrity king at the 1988 Mardi Gras Krewe of Bacchus parade in New Orleans; my drunk friend Rumms finished his Hurricane, then threw the cup of slushy ice at Alan, hitting him square in the side of the head. He was not amused, but we sure were.

    I just read that he was the producer and lead writer for Fernwood 2-Night, that was a very short-lived but pretty classic and influential show starring Martin Mull. Did not know that.

    Wow, didn't know that. Definitely ups my opinion of him.

    My parents were big fans of Fernwood 2 Night and Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman. At the time I wasn't old enough to get how those shows were funny, but Norman Lear, Martin Mull, and Fred Willard were comic geniuses.
