I need to get jonged. (Bike advice)

    Hey guys,
I need some serious bike advice, I plan on getting a lot more into bikes this summer and even though I can out talk just about anyone in skis I know absolutley nothing about bikes. Im probably looking for a good XC bike because Im not ready to do the Full downhill thing but most of what I will be doing is trail riding in the canyon, Im rehabbing a busted leg so I wont be riding much gnarly terrain. That being said, Im open to just about any suggestions. I am 6'2" 140ish (and gaining!) I have Broish hookups on Cannondale, specialized, Rocky moutain, Trek and Marin but not limited to those. I'd like to go stay between $300-500 and would consider maybe going up to $700 if I needed too.

    Thanks for the help!

    and JONG!

I would consider(in that price range), the Cannondale F400. With your bro-deal, you get a solid HT, nice fork, disc brakes, good components. Should meet all your needs and be a bike you can keep if you upgrade later. Good luck!

In that price range, definitely go hardtail, get a nice solid frame that you can upgrade as you want/break stuff. May want to consider going used also, although the bro-deal may negate that advantage (don't know, never been "in the know" enough for a bro hookup )

How good is your Bro-deal? Can you get a bike at a significant discount, wholesale, or employye purchase price? Reagardless, I'd say for $500 go for a decent hardtail. You'll get the most bike for the buck.

One of the most important things for a bike is the head angle.

    70+= super spandex climbing times
66- = super rad DH radness

Its not employee price but its around $150 off on most of the stuff he has told me prices on. The shop Id like to support carries Rocky mountain and KHS.....
so thats the direction Im headed. Looking at the RM fusion or trail head or any of the KHS's . THanks for the advice, keep it coming!

Go with the KHS's, only because Rocky Mountains are great, but it will be tough to find one in that price range.

So he offered me Last year KHS allite 1000 for $300..... Sounds like a sweet deal to me and as long as nobody has any catostrophic faliure with this bike Im going to do it. Please advise if you've heard bad things about this bike. Eventually I do plant to upgrade the fork and maybe the breaks and will have the money to do it.

good point, but I think your numbers are off.

    68.5 = average DH radness
    66- = chicano lo-rider

    BUMP

Same here: ski gear slut but tabla rasa about bikes. However, I want to buy once and buy right so I'll pony up to $3000 or so. Locals here recommend Santa Cruz, Rocky Mountain, and Trek.

I'll be doing cross country/all mountain and want good uphill and downhill performance for the Tahoe-Sierra region.

    So JONG away please. Thanks.
