My favorite of the year is all about the subject matter. It's very rare that I get together with my brothers and all of our dogs, even more rare to have a photograph of it.



And a few others that I like, it's really difficult for me to pick 5 or even what I consider to be my best.

Not my best technical photo, but probably a once in a lifetime encounter.

15ish frame composite from the pullout in front of Glory Slide. I like keeping the morning commuters in the frame.



Current Events (journalism?): Tie Canyon Fire

Thanks, there was an elk carcass about 100 yds out, where this all went down. The wolves were there in the morning, and later on we noticed a bear watching from across the river. I hung around the whole day wondering if the bear would try to take it over. Attempts were made, but the wolf held it's ground.

That's an amazing encounter.

So it was just a single wolf that held off the bear?

How heavy do you think the bear and/or wolf was? That wolf looks huge compared to the Southeast AK wolves I've had the opportunity to see.

Yes, the bear eventually left. I think the wolf looks big because the bear is really young...seemed like possibly the first or second spring on his own. On the contrary, the wolf is collard (755m) and very old...I think the only one in recent Yellowstone to father two packs. He's a black wolf, turned gray with age. So it wasn't a very even match age-wise.
