    Meet Dalton, my 1979 CJ5 with largely stock 258 six banger in it. Super reliable so far, goes absolutely anywhere a lot of fun to drive except on ice. Then it's a deathtrap.

    floater: are those 35s?

    also...for inspiration:

    This year I got Big Black ($3500) and Little Blue ($950)

    ]

    ]

    Big black is a 351m, C6, 3/4 ton. Had gone pretty far into off-road-only land with owners previous to the previous owner. P.O. started bringing it back to daily driving and I finished. He pulled spooled 4.88s and installed 3.55s open front, posi rear. I traded worn 36" mudders for some decent streetable tires. Front pulley, rear shock towers, front wheel bearings, hubs; made the wipers, lights, horn, radio, speedometer, and heater/defroster work again...made the drivers seat sittable again. I moved numerous heavy, heavy loads of quickcrete, block, and wood this summer. Actually got 15mpg on a highway trip. Hoping to maybe work out a slide-in camper and make this into a 4x4 RV. I fucking love driving this truck, it runs and sounds great with an edelbrock and headers, loved it so much I just couldn't bring myself to drive in the salt, so I went looking for a winter beater and found little blue.

    Lil' blue had ~75K miles on it when I bought it. I've been putting a lot of miles on it. ....had shitty mismatched tires and needed brake lines. 1 bigass gnarly battery, mud tires from some guy's old plow truck on craigslist, brake lines, craigslist topper and homemade rack, rebuilt hubs.....bingo. I love this truck. Less than $1500 and I'd confidently drive this cross country.

    There you go. Nice to see the pics. Let me know if you do the

    I want to do it, but then my No Computer statement will be null and void. Worth it though- might get double digit MPG.

    Warthog. ..going to do that at some point this winter. A bit daunting for me but I'm willing to give it a shot.

    So this is what I bought recently. Bitch came from Nevada and is in the shop now receiving a bunch of regularly scheduled maintenance as well as a 2.5" lift. Already swapped those mudders for a set of Cooper ST MAXX. Also lost those running boards, cuz I don't want people to think I'm a fag. Has the factory electronic diff locks. Later on, I'll probably re-gear from the stock 4.11 to 4.56 or 4.88 (maybe).

    ^^^ how many miles? Looks good and bonus with the lockers. I've got the 2.5 ome medium springs with fox shocks. Rides great. Also have the 33" St Maxx. I don't see any need to regear.

    185K. Going with Bilsteins and medium OME springs. I'll play with her a bit before deciding on whether or not to re-gear.

    If you think she looks good on the outside, motherfucker!, fucking amazingly clean on the inside. Unlike, pretty much, all the women I've been with.

    Picked up the trooper , gonna change the fluids and tires today.

    $50 for new oil and antifreeze, and just scored some like new Duratracs for $300 on rims... plus maybe another project.

    She's getting close to being cleaned up.. sadly the sweet wheels off the 1999 Isuzu don't fit the manual hubs on this one. Going to have to grab new rims.

    When I was 13 or maybe 11 or 12, we rented Chevrolet troopers (rebadged isuzus) in Ecuador, and did a big road trip around the country. They were manual transmission, and I learned to drive a stick on the beach down there. That is what your truck makes me think of.

    Saw a well-loved one of these today at the hill, minus the snorkel:

    Also saw a first generation pair of Line Darksides in pristine condition shortly thereafter, with matching Solly 900s. Time warp in the best possible way.

    The Suzuki hasn't come together yet, but this just popped up:

    https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/d...8553/overview/

    It's a '95 4R, 3.0, 233k, clean carfax, manual, no accidents, many service records, new clutch, $4k.

    Yes? No?

    ^^ check all e-windows and door locks and be prepared for them to eventually fail (motors and solenoids).

    What about this: http://m.mastodon4x4.com/#/vehicle/6074992

    Turns out the 4 runner has some issue that causes a loud bang, followed by a grinding noise when on full left turn lock, even in 2wd. Not getting into that. Same place has a pretty mint 03 Tahoe LT with 250k for $5800. It's not a beater, and it's a little more money than I was thinking to spend, but it's in great shape. Far better condition than the one I had briefly last winter. Currently eating lunch before deciding... Any thoughts?

    Ended up taking the Tahoe out for a few hours this afternoon and the thing seems to be essentially perfect. Wrote the dealer a check for $4,500 and we're out the door. Car seems to be in beautiful shape. Apparently it spent its last eight years of life being owned by a couple in their sixties. Things got a fucking DVD player in it. Pretty sure this doesn't qualify as a beater

    Agreed... Would have been sick. Still might end up with the Samurai... Will probably wait at least until tomorrow AM to pitch the idea of a 5th car. But depending on how this adapts to life in the mountains, I might end up selling this and buying that whenever it comes up. My buddy might also just sell it elsewhere. To the right person, the suzuki is worth more money than I was going to give him. We'll see what happens... But after having borrowed other people's trucks and suvs four times in the last two weeks, it's nice to have a larger car in the driveway again.
