WTR WTF (Lange XT130 FreeTour doesn't work with Marker Jester ID 16)

    WTF:

Lange finally made some boots that work with Dynafit pins (XT130 FreeTour). They seem like awesome boots, light, stiff, great hike mode. They added WTR soles and claim that they are Alpine ISO 5355 or Touring ISO 9523 compatible. I had last years Marker Jester on my quiver, and was told I needed to upgrade the bindings to work. Scored 3 sets of Marker Jester ID 16's. This years - 2016 / 2017. Guess what - they don't work!! Cannot fit the WTR sole into the new Jester Binding. In all positions there is no way that the AFD's on the boot and binding come close to lining up. Marker also claims that there bindings are: Alpine ISO 5355 or Touring ISO 9523 compatible, but they do not seem to be compatible with WTR. Interestingly Marker has introduced their own new Grip-Walk "standard"

Contacted both MarkerUSA and Lange in France. Got very nice, wanting to help people, that all said it "should work" but it doesn't - still waiting to hear back. There's no way that the WTR boot sole is going in that binding. Listed 6 sets of bindings up on Ebay, plus a few others (Baron's, etc.) that have been in the garage all summer. (shameless plug: please go buy my stuff - I'm selling it all for really good deals). Went and bought new Salomon Wardens. They claim to be MNC compatible, which means they support alpine boots, backcountry (e.g. vibram sole boots) and this new WTR standard.

"Luckily" I only re-drilled one pair of skis. Even when this all gets resolved, good luck ever using these boots if I need to rent. Ski boot / binding interface is about to get really difficult.

You need the grip walk soles such as dalbello's for the new jester i.d. I'll buy a pair if you ordered at cost, as I'm going to order some anyway to go with my carbon lupos. Rossi makes the walk to ride bindings....tech talk....JONG

Well clearly you got the 148 boost + Free tours, when you should have just stuck with the 559 x 142.

I can put my WTR soles into my Jesters from LAST season! With the height max'd, they even test out fine.
The new ID version "should" provide even more adjustment. Interesting.

I don't see anywhere on the lange site that they claim the freetour is ISO 5355. ISO 9523 and ISO 13922 yes, but not 5355.

Maybe doesn't solve your problem with jesters but certainly a deterrent to those of us with a quiver of sth's.

This is actually marker sucking in my opinion... not following an established norm.

    And Tech Talk Jong.
a positive attitude will not solve all of your problems, but it may annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Don't believe there is a WTR norm... actually this is all binding companies sucking. Inventing something they think the customer needs. Basically it's the French versus the Germans on this one. Marker's Grip Walk works differently and IMHO better in that their Grip Walk bindings accept a DIN sole and a Grip Walk sole without having to adjust toe height which can't be said for WTR. The new Jester ID bindings have a moving AFD that moves In the opposite direction this year. Forward not back which is how they could accommodate a rockered AT sole without having to increase the height of the binding. I believe Tyrolia will be offering Grip Walk (or already does).
