    Climate change is inevitable

To defer the extreme results start with limiting consumerism!

So some people in Asia were paying to import waste plastic then throwing it in open burn pits?

Only 9% of plastic is actually recycled. China was importing it for a fee.

Plastic is extremely expensive to recycle and the recovered plastic has very little value. the most profitable way to deal with plastic waste is to charge the person sending you the waste a "recycling fee" and to then dump the waste in a river or on an open field. That was what was happening and the overwhelming majority of the waste imported for "recycling" to China was being dumped.

In 2018 China stopped importing our plastic waste. So it got diverted to SE Asia. They were overwhelmed and burnt it for power or dumped it. The toxic waste has caused contaminated water, crop death and respiratory illnesses.

What was nefarious was that the beverage companies that were responsible for the vast majority of single use plastic and the oil companies profiting from this said it was all ok as long as we recycled, knowing all along there were issues with recycling and most plastic was never collected for recycling anyway.

Same as what's nefarious about fossil fuel companies is that they have actively fought to sow doubt and to hide the truth about climate change so they delay action to cut emissions so they could reap obscene profits from more fossil fuels.

But Seattle Starbucks consumers feel SO much better having 5 different holes to dump their trash in when they all go to the same container under the counter (pun).

Feel good environmentalism, like carbon credits.

Is this the type of content that you look at on a regular basis and are you posting this as a joke or do you believe that tree damaged fencing is caused by a global conspiracy?

Yeah, I was drinking coffee. It’s some guy complaining about a tree he planted in 1992 or something and how he needs to cut it down because it’s encroaching on his fence and then there’s footage of Nanci Pelosi talking about the Global sustainability initiative in 1992 and then some guy that looks like he belonged to Heaven’s Gate cult talking about a global conspiracy to control population and eliminate American citizens sovereignty by creating biosphere reserves and ties in Covid 19 somehow. Of course I’m paraphrasing but that’s the gist of it.

Yes, I’m still not sure what the point of the linked video was let alone what Scotty’s intent was posting it. It’s like he’s trying to highlight this segment of society’s stupidity and ignorance. It’s just pointless jibberish.

wait but it is true that carbon offsets are pretty useless- the real need is to reduce tco2 carbon generation, offsets are slippery AT BEST and i say this as an owner of a biz that achieves "carbon neutrality" by purchasing offsets.

and it is true that most of our recycling was simply being exported to china as effectively garbage for them to dispose of, on boats that were doing dead legs anyways to load up more TCUs of containers of shit to ship right back to us. and i say that as a business owner importing dozens of 40'HC containers each year.

glass and metals are recyclable, and only a few select plastics and only in highly sophisticated facilities that the majority of the country's waste does not have access to. plenty of places are just taking the blue bin and dumping it into the dump with the rest of the trash.

a carbon tax, however, would be really really effective. it would require passing large parts of the intake back to the population to offset the price increase on goods. but the tax would disproportionately affect extractive industries who just so happen to be the mega wealthy so it barely takes two neurons to understand why it doesnt get seriously discussed, even tho an good faith policy wonk could write the policy on a single page

Are u guys still arguing about climate change?

Wake up- marketing scheme…dollar bills, dollar bills.

Yeah there is a problem but are they doing something about it or manipulating you to sell something? Some companies are legit! Due ur own deligence, most of it is marketing and propaganda…..

Yes we need to collectively make a change but that’s not going to work for corporations. Buy-buy-buy. Corporations, government and shareholder backed solutions are for you to buy some sort of new idea/product/scheme…the greenback always come first in this manipulative dirty world.

I believe in climate science therefore i take all carbon tax, offset etc schemes at face value. All of it 100% legit and 100% effective. No question.

All I can hope for is that these dumb-asses are young enough so that in time they will realize how wrong and stupid they were.
I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

I loved talking about the weather and everybody else used "talk about the weather" as a punchline for boring conversation, but I still love talking about the weather and WHO'S BORING NOW??
