solar panels and wind farms are seriously fucking up desert ecosystems and wildlife populations here in the south west.

I'm not saying that they aren't better than burning fossil fuels but they are having far greater consequences then as originally sold to us by the far left and the eco nuts.

That checks out. Humans have always been assholes to the environment. Even as we nomadically moved south through North America we hunted some species to extinction.

They are very far from a panacea. Solar waste will be a big issue and wind farms f up birds and whales.

It’s myopic thinking. Fossil fuel CO2 bad. Anything else is perfect.

I got covid and long haul. The vaccine wasn’t an option when I got infected. I wasn’t spreading anti vax, anti lockdown stuff. I expressed my concern of getting vaxxed after infection as I didn’t want to get worse.

The truth is, that all of the other forms of energy are still dependent, to varying extents, on combustion of petroleum products. Decreasing total energy usage is the only way to avoid adding to the problem.

The needed change is in the psyches of humans, to where there isn't an internal imperative to relieve anxiety through all the distractions of merchandise and media, And having the biggest most powerful everything that others have, and the most of it, and aspiring to living high on the hog.

Global warming may wipe out the human species and most other living things, but new organisms will probably take their place. Or not--life on Earth is actually much more tenuous than people think and is the result of a series of fortunate circumstances. But if all life on Earth, and any other life in the Universe somes to an end, what does it matter? Is there an intrinsic value to life over say rock or clouds of dark matter? In the cosmic scheme of things it doesn't matter.

OTOH I would prefer to live out my life and have my kids and my one grandkid be able to have enjoyable or at least tolerable lives and leave the cosmic thinking to the Zen masters.

Much as I like what Rasputin (the maggot, not the monk) says, I don't think a change in the human pxyche is forthcoming or that disastrous climate change can be accomplished by individual altruism. I fear it is not possible in a democratic society or without pain more serious than most of us would submit to voluntarily.

I thought this happened in the 50’s. Put a human on the moon. And then came back and did their best to fix a few things. Took a couple decades, and still working on some key points. We’re in a rut.

Without pain more serious than most of us would submit to voluntarily.

This is the hardest part I think. Or just truly ignorant of the plight of others. ‘Let them eat cake’. Worked out so well for Miss Antoinette. Except the guillotine is now economic and societal collapse via climate.

This is actually one of the biggest concerns about climate change: migration caused by climate disasters will lead to world war. Migration from climate disasters has already caused a number of wars around the world. As this increases the odds of world war increase. 2 degrees of warming could definitely trigger this.

Sure. Maybe in 30 years. But what’s going right now between China, Taiwan, Iran, Israel, Russia etc and the west is a real near term threat. We are stumbling towards world war with one stupid decision after the next. Climate is takes a massive backseat to this in my mind.
