Exactly. Just punch a few more holes in the ozone layer and the magnetosphere

Not a climate change denier, but i think the politicians are rushing, without looking at consequences. Not the first time it happened.

Right now, there's no plan on what to do if the wind is inadequate or the sun doesn't shine at night.

Batteries are not the answer, except maybe to help Tesla's profits.

Current technology seems to dictate use of gas power plants, as they can be started and stopped with little delay.

Unofficial Networks posting about Abasin firing up snow machines in t minus 2 weeks….
Is it just me seeing the hypocrisy, in what has to be massive energy and water consumption, to fire up snowguns to make 2 WROD’s, closer in date to the 4th of July than Xmas?!?
Droughts, record summer heat in the west in September, don’t think we need to be playing god trying to create winter before Mother Nature says so

That same marketing head will be blasting out the sustainability teams “Protect our Winter” and sustainability posts for their resort, I just think blowing snow this early flies in the face of that.

A Basin gets its water from the North Fork of the Snake River, Denver Water shares the water rights with the ski resorts. When the snow melts it goes back into the Dillion reservoir. Dont really see the issue.

Per A Basin's website, they get most of their energy from renewables and will be 100 percent renewable by 2025.

Also, this sort of whataboutism doesn't make you seem clever.

Not trying to be clever, just pointing out ways in which i feel the ski industry could be more sustainable. Glad they are using renewable energy, & thanks for the warm remarks!

Rushing? Are you shitting me?!? They've been dragging the heels for the last 30+ years! Doing nothing is far worse than taking a chance on unknown consequences. And if anybody is telling you that we need to fear these unknown consequences without explaining how they can anticipate them, they're pulling a con.

Worth a watch if you haven’t seen it. Offsetting carbon with credits isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

We'd have to cancel skiing in the midwest without snow making, except for the few resorts that ring the great lakes.

How often would Keystone have a base strong enough to support the Xmas tourist crowd without snowmaking? Not many.

Then again, like importing fruit from Chile in the dead of our winter, I suppose it is a fair point of discussion. I think the economics of making snow that is going to melt are pretty bad and that kind of solves the problem for us. A Basin is making snow that generally sticks around for the winter.

Melt cycles/rain leading to exorbitant snowmaking costs and is what will kill skiing near my area eventually. Good for the environment but probably bad for giving people a reason to give a fuck. Can play video games in any weather as long as the roof is holding.

+1 to doing what we can and going all in on alternatives even if it is sort of make it up as we go along. Isn't that also how we evolved from steam to ICEs and from kerosine lanterns to DC and AC power in homes? We know what's not working and making things worse already.. Trying other shit isn't worse until we prove it.. then we can move on to trying something else..

It's going to require a massive decrease in standard of living, or killing about 4 billion people in short order. The generation you and I are both a part of had ample opportunity to address this before it came to that, but that's the point we're at now. We made our bed, now it's time for us and our progeny to lie in it. You're welcome, kids! Our generation proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that avarice trumps all.

I get that you're going for gallows humor, but I would put even odds on him taking that matter into his own hands at some point.

You're incorrect about several things here. Renewable energy at utility scale is now cheaper to build than carbon-emitting power plants. Furthermore, the US decoupled GDP growth from emissions over a decade ago. Your assertions are grotesque and simply not grounded in facts or supported by economic models. This malthusian nonsense gets dangerously close to advocating genocide and it distracts from implementing real solutions.

We are also not similar in age. I'm going to be around for many more decades.

In three lines you summed up the way I feel that woulda taken me a page to deliver, and not as well.
Welcome aboard. "avarice Trumps all". I see what you did there...
Sir shred, I assume he's apologizing for our generations inaction. I apologize as well.

^^^ Now the denial has shifted from "it ain't happening at all or it's not our fault at all" to.. "we're not in a lot of trouble from it yet or for at least another 50+ years" .. "we have time to gradually adapt"... etc...

Did you know that in the next 100 years 8 billion people will die?

Haha.. Yes, 95% of the people alive today will be dead in 100 years. Got any other nuggets of wisdom to share?
