Today I received about 10 letters from law firms wanting to represent me since I booked my court case on Tues. Some are in Spanish, I ruled them out.

This is one of the firms:

    Bottom. L. to R.
    Yes, yes, yes, no, no

    Top. L to R
    No, maybe, no, maybe, yes

Pfft. What you need is 27 color glossy photos with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one.

Don't know about your state, but in California a sworn officer can right a ticket anywhere, they just tend to stay within their own limits. The town or city has noting to do with which court, as it is all done at county courts here. If you only legal defense is X vs Y, you are likely screwed, but I slept at home last night and haven't been to a Holiday Inn Express in ages.

Here also, you can contest tickets by mail and save a trip to court, then fight it in court if you lose your mail in case. Pretty much the only hope for a stop sign ticket is the cop is a no show, otherwise its his word against yours and he will likely prevail.

It could be a case of blind justice.

If you show up to your court date, they will likely negotiate the fine down a little for a plea bargain. So, if your time isn't worth more than the fine, or if you can take time off and don't mind spending it in court, could be a way to go. But most likely you will lose the case in any event, which could affect your insurance rate.

On second thought go with the Spanish firm. Hilarity could ensue when you show up to traffic court with an entourage of Latin women in pantsuits, mail order law degrees and an English to Spanish dictionary in hand.

    Wear a go pro too.

Here's what 30 seconds of googling pulled up:

This might be the most vague thing ever written. It clearly states a big fat maybe , it depends and I don't really know.

Well, it looks like the facist police state I live in has this covered, at least on the arrest part.

    ftp://www.njleg.state.nj.us/20002001/S1000/949_I1.HTM

But it doesn't answer the question, "which town court should be the beneficiary of this highway piracy?" The town the arresting officer is from, or the town where the violation was committed? Should I argue for a change of venue?

That's because the question it's answering is vague. It basically says that you need to know the specific jurisdictions involved, and then gives a summary of the possibilities based on which are most likely. That's the answer you'll get when you're asking a general question that has different answers depending on the specifics.

Mail order? Because brown people in your world couldn't possibly have gone to last school?

Maybe not last school but I know I had a Latin law students organization that was petty sizeable at my Top20 law school.

It's a crack on law firms that solicit traffic court clients sight unseen. Not usually upper crust attorneys but whatever.

    Lighten up.

    +1

I got a speeding ticket last summer, and I went to court to request taking a Driving School class to keep the citation off my record (in Salt Lake county, you can't just sign up for Driving class, you have to have court approval... stupid, huh?).

I went court, had a preliminary discussion with prosecuting attorney before appearing in front of the judge, and he offer a lower fine and citation dismissal from my record as long as I didn't get another citation in the next 3 months. I agreed, and then had to make a "plea in abeyance" in front of the judge. The Judge accepted/approved the terms, and it was a done deal. Totally worth my time to go into court to keep the ticket off my record for insurance savings.

How about forgetting jurisdictional line laws and just try stopping at stop signs in future?

If the ticket is from town X and its traffic court, but the offense allegedly occurred in town Y, you can maybe say your trial should rightfully be held in town Y so they get the revenues, if any.

Shouldn't the fine be paid to the municipality and the case heard in the court of the town this crime was committed in?

We're talking $100 of beer money here, so it's nothing to sneeze at.
Here in God's Country (California) a sworn peace officer can enforce state law anywhere in the state, notwithstanding being employed out of the "jurisdiction " where the offense occurs.

    In retrospect...

But then again who among us hath never come to a gliding stop at a stop sign? May he who has never committed such sin be the first to cast stones.
