    1000 - What's in a Number?

    (went here yesterday)

So here it is, my 1000th post on TGR. Four years have passed since I first migrated over here from Powdermag.com, driven by the evil Daniel along with most of the rest of the regulars here.

I thought I’d take a moment to reminisce about some of my favorite memories from my short time here, and then leave you with a few thoughts and some of my plans for the future.

First of all, who the fuck besides Neo spends so much of his life online, connected to the internet, “talking” to a bunch of weirdos they’ve never met? If I could go back to 2000 and tell myself that I would post 1000 times on an internet bulletin board, and actually call people I met online “friends”I would probably kill my future self and vow to never touch a computer again. But the reality is, four years later, I did, and I do. But I still don’t tell girls about it. Besides, this place is addictive, and it’s not that bad for you, unless you’re a top-heavy, semi-hot single mom from Reno looking to score a free place to live in Tahoe. And when you're obsessed with skiing and own a computer, it's only a matter of time before you end up posting on TGR.

That said, as a graduate student in Oregon and as a corporate government drone in Hawai`i and Tahoe, chained to a desk during daylight hours, I somehow managed to type out 999 posts about God knows what. But the cool part was, in doing so, I felt more and more like part of a community, and as a result, I actually met more than a few of the regulars from TGR/Powmag, and even put some of them up in my house in Truckee and showed them around Squaw.

So I thought I’d take this opportunity to thank everyone that I do know, and to extend yet again, an open invite to anyone wanting to check out some summer skiing in New Zealand for the next few years.

*Evil E – thanks for turning me onto Powmag.com in 2001, and as always for being a great cuz and all the info you passed on to me in Colorado from 96-00. Can’t wait to see ya down here!
*Gonzo etc from Beantown/Chiland, the first maggots I met - thanks for the Chef Boyardee! Enjoy my old house/Ben’s new house in 05/06
*Splat – you are fucking insane. Stop sniffing glue and putting Draino in your banana bag, man, seriously! (Continued good luck with the bros/PMGear!)
*Homer J – we’ve yet to ski together, but I actually knew you when I was in high school in Pennsyltucky, so I’ll send ya a shout out anyway.
*Alkasquawlick – thanks for occasionally posting on here too so I am not the only loser in our group of friends.
*Oldtimer and Huckasoreass – funny I first met you guys in Colorado at Keystone when I was showing Scott’s movies at CC, and then we actually became friends when I moved to Tahoe and started hanging out with Scott’s old roommate Rob. I guess the world of skiing really is that small….anyway, we’ve had some killer times in Tahoe and even in Thailand and hopefully in Costa Rica, and maybe even in Hawai`i and sooner or later in New Zealand! Oldtimer, for fuck’s sake - stop having kids so you can travel with the ones you've already got and come out and party again damnit! And Huck – don’t start yet. She’s not that hot, really.
*WSD (and other regulars in chat midweek last winter) – way to help me get through the blasé days at work. I sure hope school this time around doesn’t drive me back in there!
*Viva and NHNB – (the last two maggots I met in the US) nice to meetcha and ski with ya! Hopefully again sometime soon.
*Tip – thanks for the liners man, can’t wait to use `em down here!
*Girlski and Holly - nice to have you as guests so Kate can always say she slept over at a house in Tahoe where a guy made her dinner and had to change his pants three times while cooking because he spilled it on himself frommm being too drunk to hold the ladle

Some noteable maggots I don’t know, but who always inspire me to get out there and make some turns or something else:

*Tom always makes me shit my pants when I read his insane-o TRs
*Too many to name off the top of my head, but the crew of b/c slayers in the Wasatch are always inspirational to me to go climb and ski more
*666 for rinsing it out proper every time, damn, he’s sure good at laundry….
*Punani always makes me realize I should be partying harder and getting laid more

And that’s about it. If I forgot you, sorry, I suck. But I gotta get back to work, really. But I'm all about hiking all over the Southern Alps and honing my ski mountaineerinng skills to open up some more BC skiing, so I hope to contribute to the summertime stoke with lots and lots of TRs from my adventures down here. So stay tuned, I just might hit 2000 posts by 2010. Or I'll meet a girl and get a life!

This is Mt. Potts Station!! Thats Edoras in the background, right? Where the city of Rohan was set in LOTR? There is a heli/cat operation run out of said station, accessing a good deal of terrain up the north side of that valley. Frickin' awesome. More pics. This is like manna from heaven.

Lane - Sorry, no sense in stopping the madness now.
It better not be too long before we cross paths again.

Grant, good to hear from you. I was just positioning your Neanderthalic pass picture with all of mine on a page to get an idea how it would look. Squaw closed up yesterday. Sunshine, lots of people playing in the park...Ended it with a Main Chute to Classic Chute run. Could still ski to Dave's Deli. Barely. But, it's time to move on. Keep in touch. It's always good to hear from the Fozzie.

Lane - we miss you in chat!! come back!!

Glad you're having a great time travelling. Sorry I missed in SF. You still coming back to the States in the fall for Burning Man? If so - stop by SF on your way and we'll get that beer finally.

Keep us posted on the volcanic activity from Down Under (and by "volcanic activity", I mean geological incidents, you sickos...)

Mr. Meyer - that post sounded like a farewell address! You're not leaving us, are you? Then again, it was highly reminiscent of actions previously taken by MD9 or Pinner (to name a few), and they're somehow still around...

Sorry I missed skiin' with ya this winter, but I probably would've just slowed you down... Maybe in a few years when I have enough duckets for a flight down there or maybe when you get back!
