Is someone trying to tell me something?

So yesterday my plans for a long road ride got interrupted by my dogs getting into a porcupine, subsequent vet visit and a turn of the weather towards shitty.

So today the weather was cooperating and I started out for a 40 mile ride. The first 12 miles were without incident some good climbing and fast descending. About 1/4 way down the first decent I felt a rythmic bump in the back wheel. I stopped to take a look and it appears the wheel is out of true, or so I thought, but not badly so I continue my decent hitting speeds bewteen 40-45 mph over a span of a few miles before the road flattens out. Just after getting on to the flats and my speeds drop to ~25 mph I hear a loud pop from the rear tire and instantly hit the brakes and pull to the right without crashing.

    No problem just a flat......

As I get my tools out and take the wheel off I notice that the sidewall on my Michelin Pro race is totally blown out and the kevlar fiber bead is showing. Glad it didn't happen 2 minutes earlier or I might be writing a gimp central thread instead of this one.

Fuck!!!!!! I'm probably 7 miles from where I parked and 5 miles from the nearest bike shop.

So I put the wheel back on and start walking with my thumb out and my bike on my shoulder thinking no problem someone will pick me up in no time. Wrong, I took close to 20 minutes before a nice woman on vacay from Mass. stopped to pick me up in her rented convertable. Those fucks in the SUVs and trucks didn't even give me a second look and several of them had bike racks on, fuckers. Oh well karma will be catching up in the near future. But at this point I'm really starting to thing someone really doesn't want me to ride this weekend.

So I finally got home and made it to my bike shop and bought a pair of Continental Attack/Force front-rear combo and some lightweight tubes. The shop did give me a new Michelin Pro Race and is going to send the other one back to the factory.

Don't feel bad, it'll change... I heard on the weather last night that it has rained 21 out of the 26 days. It's almost the end of May and I hadn't even ridden my bike other than to class.

Today it was sunny so I decided to go check out the trails in hopes that they were rideable... To my suprise they weren't muddy, despite three weeks of rain.

How was it? I went pretty nuts over here this weekend, although Saturday morning I hiked up the Nan shen (south mountain). It was pretty fun now that the sun has finally come out.

Not bad, but not all that great.... I'm in better shape than what I thought I would be. With all the new housing developments over by Eastwood, they've taken out a bunch of the trails, other areas, you sort of feel like you're riding around by a mud put. But, I think you knew that. Hopefully I'll be able to go somewhere a little more interesting this week if the weather stays nice.

Yea, I was at eastwood before I came to China and the took out about 1/3 of the trails to make room for houses. I was planning on going sunday morning somewhere. May be Friday, but I think that day will be shot after the flight home. 3 weeks of sitting on may ass in china gets me ready to do something.

I lived in Summit County three seasons ago, and got some road rides in at the end of the season. I would do the loop from my condo on 70 by the frisco exit, and up over that road that connects the Loveland pass road with the Breck road (you know, locals know the name of the road). So I get to that spot on the south side of Lake Dillon with the big ass shoulder and super views of the mountains to the north of it. sweet. blue skies.....and my pedal breaks off. snap. Look, in case you wanted to know.
So I have no other choice but to thumb. Second car is a beat 80's Blazer with the back kinda chopped off piloted by hot blond from the East Village, or at least that was one of many of her stops in her world. It was pretty much like a song, but, alas, it didn't have the happiest of endings for benny. But it was beautiful. Drove me all the way home.
