    Sundance Super D

    http://www.sundanceresort.com/bike_race.htm
(Scroll to the bottom of the web page for the Super D info....)

Just a fun series of downhill-esque races at Sundance Resort. $20.00, only $4 more than a normal pass, stay and ride afterward. Don't hope for a super challenging course, and while it takes me half an hour to finish, the winners are done in 16 or 17 minutes, so it's not a long course. Go more for the social aspect of a fun little race.

First race tomorrow....anyone in? Check in 8:00 - 8:30 am, race 9 - 10 ish, and I haven't been there to know how good the trails are yet. Did it last year, but it was later in the year so it's hard to compare.

What communist do you work for? Oh right.

That Super D sounds fun, but my bike needs some serious wrenching and it won't be done by the morning.

Shitty weather, I didn't go, don't know if they even held it. Team Maggot Racing sounds good for next time though!

    Team Maggot Racing?

Bump for a race this weekend. Due to the shitty weather aforementioned, the Memorial Day race was cancelled and it's been moved to this saturday. Same time and everything.

$20.00, includes race and all day lift ticket and usually some schwag as well. On the lift by 8:30am or so to make the start. Anyone in?

I'm decisive. I'm jumping right in and thinking about it without any prior consideration.

So, what kind of formal attire does one wear to race in a Super D race?

    XC helmet, I assume.
    Clipless pedals, I assume.
Camelbak with a small amount of water in it, or a waterbottle?
Tire levers, pump and and a tube in the backpack?
    Any armor (shin/knee, elbow?)
    Beuller?
    vapor lock - bitch.

I'm wearing shin/knee & forearm/elbow guards (for pseudo speed / confidence), but there is a climb in the middle to be aware of. Water: yes. Pump, tube, etc: yes. Clipless: yes. More of a smooth downward singletrack with some bumps here and there. Quite nice, quite nice. I'm preriding it tomorrow morning around 10, 'cause I haven't ridden there since..........July 2004. Eek.

You'll see some of everything - full DH armor to full XC race bikes and lycra.

Depends on the course and what you think your strengths/fears are. For the one at DV I went w/fullface & goggles (it was early and cool anyway), elbow and knee pads, clipless pedals, XC bike, no pack or tools. My logic is just that on a DH bike - aside from the fact that the spare tube and heavy duty levers weighs like 2 lbs, it takes a ton of time to get thru-axels and DH tires off the rims - you lost by more time than the other people were racing if you tried to change it out there. Just avoid the rocks and ride it down. Though on my XC bike it takes less time - it's still a short race, but the rims are less likely to hold up to riding a flat down... But that was a shorter course too - winning times were like 8 minutes, and the only climb was at the beginning. Might want a camelbak for this one... for some water too, but it's kindof a tossup.

If it's the same as last year, no. Lift opens at 8:30am, though maybe at 8:00 so then one practice run MIGHT be possible. I'm remembering no practice though. (Only remembering a fight with the staff about the course....but no worries.) Race starts at 9, they seem to want it finished by 10:00am when the lifts open for the public.

OK. "Maybe a camelbak." Got it. Thanks for the help!

No practice run? How can I let it run when I don't know whats around the corner? I just might test out my helmet/elbow/knee/shin guards as I crash!

I think I'm out. $20 to race an unknown course when I've had 1 XC ride in a month and I just pulled an all-nighter?

I'll still drive up, powho, if you still want to race it.
