The problem is organized bike thieves who target high end bikes and go town to town as well as random local thieves who break into vehicles often for anything of value. The homeless are rarely a problem stealing nice bikes, they may get lucky and snag a nice one but generally steal anything like huffys and schwinns and some may have lots of spare bikes to fix theirs and others or are just crazy hoarders. Some of you with lots of bikes should be able to relate, no?Everyone here IMO should have gps trackers like an airtag inside your bike and as stating the obvious - never leave anything in vehicles if you live or visit places like PDX/Seattle/SLC/ etc, or staying in any hotels anywhere ever. Which reminds me I haven't added a tag to my new bike...

AirTags are kind of useless unless you see it moving right away and can give immediate chase. High end bike thieves are wise to them and will locate and toss the tag pretty quickly. Apple alerts for them are sort of self defeating. Better to get a gps tracker , at least it won’t show up on the thief phone as nearby. If you can find a secret cavity on the bike that would be best

Organized thief gangs here are local and have impressive intel networks on which garages have the pricey bikes.

You are def right about airtags as they are the ones that aren't discreet anymore, I shoulda remembered and edited that out.

My 4iiii power meter on my gravel bike has Apple Find My built into it. My road bike has an Air Tag under the bottle cage with security Torx bolts holding it on. They are pretty discrete, but add some height to the bottle cage. Ive watched a bunch of videos where they show degraded signal from inside the frame, inside fork steerer, or in seat posts.
For my other bikes I think Im going to buy some Lezyne Matrix Air Cages that has the air tag holder built into the bottle cage. I know there are all kinds of 3D printed stuff out there to hold an Ait Tag, but thats a decent bottle cage, and its pretty descrete.

I can tolerate the rain and heat, but nearly a month straight of 70+ degree dew point is taking a toll.
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.
