Anyone have anything they'd like to rant about?

Yellowjacket season sucks. Still a few weeks before they get really bad. Last year brought a PR with 7 separate incidents and an unknown number of stings. The stings suck, but the itching and swelling afterwords is worse and the swelling always pools in my feet if the sting is below the waste. Couldn’t get my shoes on a couple times last year.

Bald face hornets are next level, though. They sting hard and fast and keep rapidly stinging until you kill them. I’m just annoyed by most stinging bugs, but those things terrify me.
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

Agreed. Those things are the devil's work. Only reasonable thing to do with BF hornets:

I was out working with a ranger in a local park this morning and mentioned the stings. He goes bouldering in an area not far from where I got stung and figures they could be africanized bees. Said they have some really aggressive ones near their bouldering spot and a lot of climbers have been stung, usually by individual bees randomly similar to what happened to me.

Myself. Ordered what I was sure was a shift cable replacement kit from Blue Sky Cyclist in January with the plan to replace my shift cables in the early spring. Had surgery so that was put off. Last week I get around to opening the package and oops it is a brake set cable kit.

Tried calling them, impossible to get a human, left a message. Rep. called back I started to explain and was cut off with, "That order was too long ago for a refund". Wasn't asking for a refund, was planning on replacing the cables on my ancient Fisher. I simply wanted to know if I screwed up or they did.

Ordered a new shift kit yesterday, from another dealer.
I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

Maury called, I'm not the father but I do have a SLAP tear, Hill Sachs lesion, full thickness chondral flap fissure, and a partial tear of the inferior glenohumeral ligament. Surgery not recommended at this time, but my bike is going to be lonely for a while. At least I got cleared to start riding to work again.

Oof. That sucks. Weren't you having problems with that shoulder a few years ago?

Nope. On the other side I've had a clavicle fx, scapular body fx, and a grade 2 AC separation (all since rehab'ed back to 100%), but this shoulder was pretty unscathed.

I don't really know what any of those things are, but they sound unpleasant. Vibes / heal up quick!

    Goddamnit!

Dan that's super shitty. I don't know a ton about shoulders but sounds like a lot of shit. You're one of strongest people I know head to toe, literally JRA and pop. So fucked up, and scary.

    Sorry Man.

Sorry as well, Dan. As you might remember, I had an MRI in February or so, and the list of damage was even more severe. I had incredible pain, lack of strength and mobility. I was sure I needed surgery again ASAP.
Well, I took PT and strength training more seriously than ever before, rode conservatively in Colombia, etc, and generally dialed it back a bunch. Good news, now it feels almost normal, and I can do just about everything as aggressively as before. Really great turnaround. So have a little hope, PT can really work!

I agree, the road biking looked outrageously good. But my goal was to ride as high as I could in Colombia. We got pretty damn high, but our objective began emitting suffer and ash…
I’m making a go of the highest possible/enjoyable singletrack in Peru in November, if the weather gods allow.

Yeah Buddy sez Columbia has good roads with no traffic, he has been running trips to Columbia for a number of years with his friends & customers so he figures why not build a bike specific hotel that caters to the pro's ?

Oh, near the cities, the traffic can be bad, but they really respect cyclists. Out of the cities the main routes can be very hectic (curvy as hell, blind turns, no shoulder), but the b routes have good pavement, and dogs sleeping in the road sometimes.

Oh, I have hope, head is held high. Ortho was very optimistic that I'll come out the other side of this as good as ever. Still, I'm pretty bummed to miss prime alpine riding season. Luckily I trail run too so that will help preserve my sanity.

So, I checked my Strava. This year I have done 17 rides TOTAL.
Last year I had done maybe 110 by now.
    (Warning, pity party!)
    Jan, Wife’s dad died
11 days later, my dad died
Shoulder was all fucked up, knee as well (two MRIs)
    Kiddo came out as non-binary
Wife was suffering from PTSD and Grief, thought about/ almost divorced
    Colombia was cool
Got home, started riding, broke four ribs
Five weeks into that, went for two rides
Last Friday caught the absolute worst throat infection, laryngitis, and really bad flu
    Still recovering from that
Here’s to the future, gonna try and ride tomorrow!

Hope you all are having a better 2023.

That's a properly rough first half of 2023. Here's to hoping the second half is better for you!

Had a lady yell at me this morning because my dog wasn't on leash. I tried to explain to her we're on federal land and leashes weren't required.
She wasn't having it. I finally got frustrated and told her to be quiet and go back to Texas.
I felt kinda bad, but jeez.
