Several years ago, I split a shop box of SRAM cables with 4 buddies. Came out to maybe $1 a cable I think. It’s been so nice having those to just pull out without hesitation, especially through the early days of dropper posts.
Just realized I’m down to my last 2. Fack.

However many are in a shit ton.
Cables, housing, ferrules, ends, small bits and pieces, etc... anything loose/bulk, the shops charge whatever they think people will pay.
Earlier in this thread I posted about an 18 dollar XTR cable and was told the increased performance was worth the additional 400%
I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

All my shit is constantly a little broken and I spend very little time addressing it.

Hmmmm, I bought an expensive belt drive SS because...lazy wrenching.
Well maybe I'm the faggot America

I used to go through cycles every summer where I'd give up on biking halfway through the summer and just trail run because my bike would require maintenance that I didn't feel like doing at the time and then after a few weeks of trail running, I'd get around to fixing the bike. I'm happy to report that I've broken that cycle and now enjoy wrenching on my bike. I just wish I had all the tools! fucking shimano..........
Shimano is absolutely the easiest stuff to work on. What tools don’t you have?
Most shimano tools come with the product if you purchased them aftermarket.

It feels good that I have Lazy Wrenching compatriots. I didn’t know. Excellent.

I guess I was just annoyed at all the parts I had to get to swap out a chainring. I had to get a crank adjusting tool and a chainring lockring tool, both specific to shimano, whereas, SRAM uses a 8mm allen to keep their cranks in place. Spent the same amount on the tools as I did on the chainring itself.
I just replaced my wife's shifting cable and had to re-index her derailleur in the process on a SRAM NX eagle drivetrain. I thought it was easier to adjust her SRAM drivetrain than Shimano (though both are pretty straight forward and I haven't messed with my Shimano drivetrain too much this season). Shimano brakes are way easier to work on, there is no doubt about that.
Yeah, the crank tools come ‘free’ with the cranks, but obviously not on OEM.

The Park BBT-9 BB tool that has the Shimano crank preload thingy on it has served me well over the years. Of course, it’s also resulted in a lot of bloody/bruised knuckles and at least a couple face to bike incidents. Mixed blessing.

You're riding solo or with 1-2 other people and that group of 8 people that were hanging out on the trail, that you caught? They see you approaching and then decide that they need to hurry up and go right before you get there because they definitely think you are going to slow them down, since you caught them and all. Typically the group consists of 1 really good rider who has a huge ego and doesn't realize they are dragging along 6 other beaters who are going to string along the trail and require to to pass each one along your descent. You even wait 10 minutes to give some space but it still does not good.
it's funny when you pass a couple of them, and get to their leader, who can hear you coming up behind and thinks that you are one of his buddies and sees that as a sign that he needs to speed up. Then at some point he realizes that you are not one of his crew and pulls over.
My position is the group that was already burning a blunt halfway down a descent continue to do so for like 10 more seconds and not all of a sudden see it as an emergency to jump up and go. While I do get your point, my preference is to enjoy the descent....that's really why I am riding.
If I'm taking a break and a group catches me I let them by, because there is a reason they caught me.
It's just that everybody is doing it now. I remember seeing Jazzercise stickers on shitty Cadillacs...same shit
ALL...THE...FUCKEN...TIME
One time I was approaching a bit of a clearing where a couple trails intersect, fast section of trail. Husband and wife were there stopped and he saw me approaching through the woods so of course he proceeds to start up on the trail. She thinks better of it and waits so I’m on him within seconds and realize he’s trying hard to sprint away from me. After 20 seconds of me being on his ass he clips his pedal off the side of the trail and goes over the bars. I quickly stop to ask if he’s ok and he grumbles back so I respond “see, this is what happens when you start up in front of somebody” and laugh as I ride away.
If these groups aren’t starting up as they see you coming they’re usually parked blocking the trail as you come up[emoji849]
