When the xc race organizers show up at the local riding area. Turning downhill runs into uphills, chopping down jumps and other features, smoothing terrain, adding b-lines and other dainty things. When the race is over, they leave their signs, tape and other crap for the regular users to clean up, besides trying to put the trails back the way they were.

Sounds to me like some of the goings on of modern day trail building. #travesty. Mid 90's hard tails with canti's are more and more viable each new day that another friggin "flow" (lol) trail is built. Don't get me started. /rant for now.

This. Most of my favorite new trails are illegal (or under the radar at least) because they aren’t overly polished like the approved ones. I’m not a big fan of tech gnar / shit your pants type stuff but it’s nice to have a few rocks, roots and small drops to keep you honest and interested.

Guess it's a good thing there are still a couple of those in my collection although mine has mechanical discs, BB7, on it and my wifes has a cable disc on the front because no tabs on the rear.

I can't believe the pros aren't using 29ers and Plus bikes at the Red Bull Rampage. They need to get with the times.

How could this possibly be a troll? It's a legitimate rant, and this thread is about ranting, right?

I want to know why Plus tires with more grip and 29er's with better rollover wouldn't be used in Rampage, where clearly they would be an advantage. I know a lot of these pros are old school and may not want to change their setups, but this is a case where modern technology is better.

And a 27.5 front/26 rear? What could possibly lead someone to want a 26" rear wheel when descending a kinda steepish hill and occasionally getting a little airborne? Unridable. Stupid pros.

Bike stolen from shed on our property. Lame enough on its own but it was relatively cheap $2k and insurance deductible is $2k

Probably not that much, but something substantial

It always is! That's what nudges ya to the $2k deductible, right? Plus, in the vast majority of insurance buys, deductible is chosen w/o experience having to cough up the $$ because you actually had a claim. The bargain looks better when you don't have to consider actually applying the deductible at what may be... uh... an "economically inopportune" time. Like when you don't have the $1500 laying around. I've been there.

Deductibles and their real-life application are definitely rant-worthy. I mean, they explain why I haven't had health coverage for 15 years.

Yep. If I would have had the lower deductible I probably would have paid in more than the $1500 in premiums. That’s insurance

If not before, probably after. Insurance. A scam for sure, but comes in handy sometimes.

My rant, and you can file this under 'white people problems', the multiple miles of shitty, uphill square edges and ledges doubletrack on Porcupine Rim. I mean that shit's fine but The Whole Enchilada run is one of the most famous, iconic, and well traveled trails in the world. That trail alone brings so many visitors and their cash to Moab every year. Moab should really step it up and build a more palatable singletrack bypassing part or all of it. I know, I know, I should get out there and dig, I get it, I should dig more. Moab isn't my home town though. I've given, modestly but consistently, to the local trails org for years and I know they're one of the most well-funded groups in the country. They built the shitty new loop up top next to Kokopelli, totally unnecessary and not even a fun trail IMO. They've built half a dozen other networks in as many years, great work but also, pretty boring trails IMO. Catered to beginners and intermediates. Certainly not the iconic Moab style. Time to step it up Moab and put your Money where the Enchilada's mouth is. Bring the trail up to the par of it's reputation.

Gawd I feel an entitled asshole writing that but it's been on my mind for several years now.

    Get bent.

That shit is part of what makes Porc Rim Porc Rim. Going mach-looney into awful, wonderful, shitty, uphill square-edged stuff.

Unless you're referring to something else...
