Anyone have anything they'd like to rant about?

I have friends that post pretty funny shit now and then. Kids I worked with posted their walk to get their HS diplomas at graduation.

Yeah, that should have been added years ago.

Also, IMO KOMs and leaderboards are dope as long as they don’t involve cheater lines or obsessive behavior like resident UT kook Slyfox. (Though it’s been a few years, there’s a lot more fast people and Slyfox has probably continued to expand)

I swear Slyfox cheats. E-doping or something. I mean I know he was once very fast. Maybe still pretty fast? But come on. Last I knew he was still riding a scalpel, downhill KOMs? I know he's got more than one device recording and posting at once too, super weird. He's fuckin nutz.

I 100% saw him out riding an e-bike frequently when I lived there. Don’t know how he was recording them though.
At one point, Crabill would keep all his rides private, get some KOMs here and there, and then make them all public at once in November just to fuck with Fox.
When UNEL was peaking, we’d get KOMs on random shit at night and Slyfox would freak the fuck out and go out the next day. He’d be texting Kris all pissed off..[emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

I know, lots of controversy over that, for him.

I wouldn't associate with him or ride his shuttle since the way he went after Ali. Over getting booted from the facebook group. Super shitty.

That is absolutely hilarious. I can just imagine the grin on Scott's face pressing save.

HA! All of that is awesome. These days Slyfox is looking more like he ate a couple of Scotts. Does that make you faster?

    Gotta love strava drama.

There used to be a guy here who was an internet troll. When strava came along he was all over it. He was an early adopter of that program you could use to edit gps tracks to manipulate times. Then he got into flagging people's tracks. He got banned numerous times, and would always pop back up with a new username. He was flagging rides so heavily that were partially hidden via certain privacy settings that people figured he'd written a computer program to search out and flag rides. He also went into one of our local forums, and after inciting yet another massive argument he went through and deleted all of his 1,500 posts. No way he did that manually. He disappeared from the internet at some point and missed out on the opportunity to slay kom's on an e-bike, which I'm sure he is riding by now.

Why can’t they detect chair lifts (or established bike park shuttle routes) and exclude them from your stats?

Ski tracking apps all do this just fine and have different modes for touring vs riding chairs.

Technically strava could do that and much more.

I think the stats you are seeing are based on the history of it being an endurance athlete tracking device. I've used strava since 2016 and I've never once cared or even wondered what my total descent was, but the vast majority of the time it's the exact same as my ascent.

Strava has a lot of data that they hide, mainly to optimize the data they show. I'd love to have a queryable interface, but I can't see them ever investing the processing power into something like that.

Strava already does that with their ski activity recording. They just have no interest in DH biking. I’ve seen multiple people report in forums about emailing that question to them, or requesting that feature and the response is always that it’s not something they’re interested in providing. It’s a very tech bro company. Road cycling and kite surfing good, DH biking not so much.

Yeah, it is just super annoying because I like data so I like to track things...but either you run it in the bike park and get a ton of "free" climbing/distance, or you don't run it, and you miss logging a bunch of downhill mileage/time.

I tried pausing my computer on shuttles, but when you resume it, it just bumps up to current elevation and assumes you pedaled it.

Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but I like the data and I have the Pro Bike Garage or something app that tracks time/miles on various bike bikes and their parts for maintenance intervals based on strava activity.

You can either restart it for every lap, a pain, or run it the whole time and split the activity up per lap and edit out the ups afterward, also a pain.

I’ll do the former if I remember and then resort to the patter if I forget.

I’ve never shuttled with him simply because I believe there is no chance in hell he has any form of auto/liability insurance.

Once I got a Garmin watch it was a lot easier to just clock each run, assuming I remember. Just a couple button presses on my wrist, and gloves aren’t an issue.

Ditto. You should see the court records. Dude has been sued more times than the former president. I cringe a little bit every time I see a new sponsor on the side of the van.

    this shoe
    https://ride.shimano.com/products/sh-mw702-wide

    shimano mw702
somehow combines the all time best most waterproof and decently warm upper with the worlds WORST biking sole. Did people who only walk in deep sand design these things? literally negative grip. and seeing as it's a foul weather shoe the grip plus usual conditions is like EXTRA sketchy. And i've been riding clips and diffrent shoes in crap conditions for 10+ years. just awful.

please please give us the top of this shoe with the sole from the 5 series. absurd miss by shimano.
Do I detect a lot of anger flowing around this place? Kind of like a pubescent volatility, some angst, a lot of I'm-sixteen-and-angry-at-my-father syndrome?

    fuck that noise.

    gmen.

Maybe this is petty, but it is the rant thread afterall.

I purchased a new shock at the end of the season and it had issues right away and needed sent in for some warranty work. It happens, and customer service handled it well. I sent it in for the repairs and it came back with all of the mounting hardware uninstalled. I assume they had to remove it for the testing, but am I crazy to think its a little bit lame not to press it back in, or is this standard? Not a huge deal, but found it to be annoying.

Well sure, SPDs are fragile and get gummed up with Moab sand to the point that they won't release, but the simple solution is some bomber Time ATACs. Or were you ranting about the rug in the hotel lobby?
