Yep those. I drilled a more forward hole on mine to match my bunion. Heat gun helps but don't get carried away.

Everyone has to start somewhere and learn. Trailbuilding requires some learning and experience but it isn't rocket science. At a trailwork weekend I went to recently the organizers had an interesting setup. All the trailwork noobs were put in one group with an experienced builder to supervise while everyone else was free to go to town. He spent more time doing supervising than building, himself. But was able to keep an eye on everyone and teach them the right way to build tread. The work they turned out was pretty good. And next time out they'll be able to integrate better with the rest of the group and be more productive. I've also been to trail days that were widely advertised for maximum turnout that were gong shows because there weren't enough experienced people to supervise the masses. We ended up with a bunch of work done similar to what Californiagrown describes that we either had to re-do ourselves or live with.

I set up a trailwork day a few years ago to cut back overgrowth and clear sight lines for an upcoming enduro race.
Had a runner show up (and yes, I was amazed/appreciative to have a runner show up for a trailwork day) with a pair of knippers that would work well on his bonzai trimming.
I just smiled and handed him the Stihl HS 82.

^^ That is surprising. I expect the freak out from hikers, but you never know what you're going to get from trail runners.

Was running an electric chainsaw clearing a small downed tree and lots of the small branches sticking out and had a trail-runner come really close up behind me on the trail while the saw was running. Even electric I didn't hear him until he was just over an arms length from me, barely slowed pace/stop as he went past and didn't say a word. He had clear sight line too so wasn't a blind corner and I'm not sure he had headphones in either.

Around here the NICA teams have done a pretty good job in lifting the trimming efforts, though with our state park trails in my backyard there isn't much official feature building or new trails going. The rogue stuff has come/gone, but fortunately has been pretty reasonable for the most part and not made too many waves over the years. The park did force a shut-down or two of trails that were unauthorized, but also not particularly great, meanwhile one of the better old rogue trails was made official a few years ago.

Stressful week with my neighbor ambushing me last week over GIS view showing half of my driveway and much of my backyard pump track on his property line. Despite us having multiple conversations and a long understanding of where the property line is. He's original owner, been here ~20 years and I've been here 9 years. His wife hates that I tore up MY grass for my track and they can see it, despite planting trees along the line we agreed and it's already pretty obscured anyway apparently she's made it her mission to screw me over and I think drag her husband into it who I've been friendly with over the years. Long story short I agreed to split a property survey, I went and made a few calls and surprise she had a "guy" and he came out with no notice. Completely backfired and was almost exactly where we agreed, I might have even gained a few feet. Queue husband flipping straight back to passive side of passive/agressive with "well now we know"

Despite it being stupidly hot and humid I took some noon victory laps full of smugness and plan on hosting something for a bunch of friends soon. I will never understand peoples obsession with a perfect yard. Grass is dull and boring and karma is a bitch.

Edit - wow, heard Gout is a bitch! Hopefully quick recovery!

Sounds like it's coming on time for you to add another option line to the pump track.

jump line right down the property line has been suggested among a bunch of other petty, but hilarious suggestions like an orange snow fence.

Orange snow fence sounds hazardous around bikes. You need something large and brightly colored that promotes safety. Like this.

LOL, Love the idea! My buddy offered to come build me a giant wood kicker just out of spite. Going to let the dust settle, as I just did a bunch of track tune-ups and made my jump line a bit bigger.

Thanks all for the well wishes. The mild discomfort I'd been feeling since a recent boys trip where I ate steak for the first time in 3 months and had a few bourbons kept compounding. Adding in the first shellfish I've had in months following that up and here I am. I mis-self diagnosed and dug myself a pretty big hole.

I've broken myself a half dozen times the last 5 year but pain wise, this is up there pain wise. Enough swelling to pinch a few nerves... ugh.

Finally on an aggressive anti-inflammatory and it doesn't look like a club. I will need to be ginger with the walking for a few more days at least.

I'll lay with my foot elevated and iced this weekend a good bit and try to push into August.

LOL. No one who knows 1/10th of a shit about surveys and GIS would hang their hat on what I assume was an online county parcel map.

Just paint the side of it with a perfectly ambiguous.. like... is that a middle finger or a company logo...

Yeah, probably best to let it lie low.

Does the wife spend a lot of time in her yard?

Our GIS lot lines are all over the place in my County. Based on that map our parcel line, which was at one point described by the County line shows off that line by 5-6' and both lines go directly through my garage.

This is what he handed me two color paper printouts of. As it turned out my driveway does go right up the edge, but the angle in the back is completely off and is almost exactly on his grass line. What a waste of time and money for him.

Edit - removed identifying property pic

As for her and yard, no not really, though they have a vegetable garden she may spend some time in. Though I think she sits on her deck and admires her grass as one of her primary hobbies apparently.

Shit I'd be admiring my grass too if I had 1.6 acres of it and it was mowed in a diamond pattern you can see on a satellite pic...

Actually scratch that, I'd turn the thing into a giant playground for myself and leave a bit of grass in a corner for the dogs.

You have 2 acres, they only have 1.6. You are clearly superior, and they know it now!
Has she had the chutzpah to ask for 1/2 the cost of the survey?

She won’t speak to me, but they want me to pitch in some. I said I would so I will, think I’ll be in for 1/4 since that’s what we share.

Nothing to rant about really…. But a ruling on convention. Passing people going the other way, I’ll typically call out if I have more behind me in my group. They do the same. Friendly area.

Passed a guy today who held up a finger for one. I yell ok, one is behind me too! And he yells no! So I stop…. This thing is already stupid at this point, but maybe this guy needs assistance. He says he’s the only one.

That’s not what holding up a finger for one means, motherfucker. That’s a fist. At least it is for snowmobiles and shit.

    Right?

Also, we’re on bikes. I was hauling a little ass but not so fast he couldn’t say he was riding alone.
    focus.
