How do you know that? You checked after each one?

I’m used to changing a bunch of shit discover that it’s now fixed having no idea what actually fixed it

My rant being about changing multiple things and discovering that it’s now broken. Not knowing what change broke it?

It really messes with my ADHD to watch it

I'd still prefer that to changing a bunch of shit only to find it's still not fixed.

Our local trail organization and USFS just teamed up to build some new trails. They have already started, and the news ones are flat, too wide, and boring.

The rant is about the fact that they are destroying (aggressively) any user-built trails that are nearby, some of which are really fun. Why can't we have both?

Talking about BONC? Seems like a sweet project but I wasn’t in the know of the unsanctioned trails in the area that they’re decommissioning. By too wide are you walking Hoot style or what?

I'm in Carson City, not Nevada City.... Carson Valley Trails seems to be mostly hikers and equestrians, so their tails tend to lack flow. In this case they managed to make a mile long downhill feel like a climb.

I like trails narrow enough that passing is impossible. When they are wider, people just make them wider still, especially in the desert.

RU talking about the new trail they just started across from Clear Creek TH? I rode that piece on Sunday after riding CC to the snow. I was actually impressed on how much trail that they built in a week as I rode CC the weekend before and it wasn't there. Anyway, IMO, didn't seem that wide to me and a pretty good start to get into the low angle foothills. Sure it will be a blue/green level ride but on Sunday it added 4 additional miles for me on just what they built in a short period of time. So, if the plan is 9 total miles it will surely add to CC mileage.

I had a similar experience at a shop locally a few years ago. Went in looking for a new road bike. After telling him what I was looking for (at the time - carbon Trek Madone or similar) he said:

"Yeah, road bikes are cool... You know what else is cool? Cruisers are really cool. Have you considered buying a cruiser?"

As far as I could tell he was dead serious - not messing with me. He happened to have the cruiser in stock and apparently figured that a bike was a bike.

If there is anything that will ensure that you won't make a sale it's not understanding your target audience or trying to convince them to buy something they don't need. I don't think he lasted long at that particular bike shop...

Heh. Assuming that's the shop I'm thinking of, I don't know how many times those guys have tried to sell me a fat bike. I know them. They know me. They should know at this point that I am 100% not interested in buying a fat bike. But yet they still try to convince me that fat bikes are awesome year-round, and that they're the weapon of choice for the trails I ride.

My issue is that there was a perfectly good and much more fun trail already there (RIP Pokey Bush). They didn't need to completely obliterate it in order to build their magic carpet.
Yes, they did build it incredibly fast. Yes, it feels uphill both directions. Overall I'm not super pissed, despite my complaints.Click image for larger version.

Gee, I didn't know they took that one out, we rode that one for the first time a couple of weeks ago and assumed that was going to be part of the new trail system. Who ever did that spent time and effort for sure and a solid climb. When we started the new trail thought it was going to link as the link was only 50 yds away and thought we must have been on it and they buffed it out a bit. Also thought that we must be getting stronger as it was way easier than the first time. Well, the bottomline is that there isn't a lot of vert to work with south of Jack's Valley Rd, the mileage will be fun as we park at the school and it will add a hour or so on the finish.

Only XO Eagle stuff I could get in the fall was AXS. Sounded cool and I was curious, has generally very positive reviews, thought I'd give it a shot. Performed flawlessly for later fall here and on a trip to Sedona. Changed the battery and the thing went haywire. Talked to SRAM and they think it's likely a terminal malfunction. Only suggestion they had that I haven't tried is leaving the battery out overnight so we'll see. Even if that works, if this happened on a trip it would really suck. That's what $800 retail gets ya I guess? I'll be going back to analog as soon as I have time to put it on. I got a deal so warranty's gonna be a hassle, and protracted. On the plus side I learned that XO Eagle analog stuff has come down in price, and it's in stock.

Anyone wanna buy an AXS setup? LOL

I did leave the battery out overnight, a couple actually, and the thing’s working fine now. Still, I’m spooked. Theoretically you should have enough juice for any ride even if it’s low when you head out so pulling the battery after and leaving it off overnight if necessary shouldn’t be much of an issue. Still though…

When someone has an ad on PB saying “ accept reasonable offers” and you offer $10 less then asking ( item listed at $380) and the guy says it’s too low….. well then put “ firm” on your ad because I think that’s pretty fucking reasonable

On the other hand, if it’s worth $370 to you it’s damn well worth $380, so you being a cheap bastard might not be reasonable to him. Maybe if you’d offered $320 he wouldn’t have told you to pound sand?

So offering less is more respectful? My thought is no one asks what they want to get on any used marketplace. I like that PB let’s you pick how solid you are on the price. Me offering $10 less I see as a victory for both, he basically gets asking price, I get a cheap lunch out. If you aren’t willing to haggle or move then select “ firm” no issues…

'reasonable' definition notwithstanding, and within $10 being totally reasonable, I'd probably just pay the asking rather than try and haggle over such an insignificant amount and have done so one many occasions....but also, as a seller, I've just accepted insignificant amounts below asking because I'd rather just get rid of whatever it is.

Offering $10 under asking on a $380 item seems weird as hell to me. I'd probably expect dude to settle at $350 and that's what I'd offer. I'd rather ask for free shipping (assuming it's not included) rather than $10 off but that's just me...

I have now gone through 3 of the SRAM Centerline X 2 Piece 160mm rotors, that are almost IMPOSSIBLE to align properly to not rub on the brake pad. Every time I've tried to align them and have been unsuccessful, I've swapped back in the standard 1 peice centerline rotor and it aligns perfectly very quickly. There's something clearly different about 2 piece rotor, because its a night and day difference when aligning them. They must be crooked, manufactured wrong, inconsistent rotor thickness, pieces of shit, or all of the above

FUCK 2 piece rotors, I'm never using those fucking things again.

I've had the same issue with TRP two piece rotors for centerlock. Seems like the rivets connecting the spider to the to rotor warp the rotor. I used a regular SRAM rotor building my girlfriend's bike and it was the easiest brake setup I've ever done. Same with my new bike. Done with two piece rotors, and centerlock. Two piece rotors potentially have a heat resistance advantage but centerlock is truly a solution without a problem.

I have to give myself a 20 unit insulin shot every night

No big deal other than remembering to do it. I have an alarm on my phone for that

The past 4 days the shot has really stung!!
Usually I hardly feel it. But lately fuck. That stings

    Just sayin
    End rant.
