If it's snowy and icy then don't drive 65 unless you're crazy.

Gotta have studded snow tires IMO. But that doesn't give anybody license to drive like an idiot, just adds a margin of safety on the ice.

But the tractor trailers do present a danger, should one happen to slide into you on a curve. That's my greatest fear on that road.

    You kids.

191 is a much better drive now than way back in the 90s.

Can't imagine what it was like in the 70s.
I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

True...It is best not to drive it during morning "rush hour," when all the people working construction at the YC are driving up from Belgrade and Bozeman. By afternoon the road has usually melted out and it's an easier drive.

I've always found the quickest way to get to Big Sky is to not go in the Gallatin River. If you can just stay out of the river, the difference between 50 and 65 mph isn't more than ten or fifteen minutes. But if you end up in the river, it can take all day.

There is no place that me and my crew would rather ski than Big Sky. (Rowdy inbounds + no crowds) / cold smoke = fun.

TT, pick up a copy of Eric D's classic tome (https://www.amazon.com/Ski-Whole-Mou...ews/0971774838), take a lesson or two, and maybe then you too can bag the North Summit and feel the buzz.

Ha, no. I'm just poking fun at new arrivals and their automatic local status. I'm starting to want to move but I have a nine year old and and I need to finish school first.

I've been thinking Taos, southern Colorado or somewhere in Washington maybe. Bozeman would be fun but I'm not into that kind of cold any more. Or I could just stay here. It's a good place to base out of with a shit ton of stuff in every direction.

As much as I would like to spam the name of AustinFromSA's new store all over TGR, I really should let him do it, or at least I should have his permission.

It is in the same building as the liquor store for easy access. I have been hanging out in his store drinking his beer quite a bit. You should stop in, between us we can probably decimate Austin's beer supply.

I stopped by AustinFromSA's store just now, he would rather keep his TGR involvement on the down low because of some stupid shit he may or may not have posted in the past or future. I understand as I really don't want my real name out on TGR either. PM me if you want to know, it is a very cool store. Dude has a 1-year old baby plus getting a new business off the ground, he has not been on TGR much lately.

Having said that, he is going to give a special tour this Saturday at 2pm for maggots. This means you, Bunion. Plus anyone else who is around. PM me for details.

Nothing to see right now, the flight offerings are seasonal.

SLC, DEN, SEA and MSP are all year-round. ATL, ORD, IAH, SFO, LAX, JFK...seasonal in summer and winter. The fall is the dead season, nothing really starts up until around Thanksgiving.

Allegiant does Vegas and Phoenix-Mesa on odd days thru the week, but they're like semi-daily service so not sure that counts.

The dates I checked were January. Face it, the place is hard to get to. I mean, why connect on another plane in SLC to go somewhere when you're in, ..... SLC?

It is somewhat difficult and more importantly expensive to fly into Bozeman.

But when you are in SLC, yes, you are. For better or worse.

    Harry, I will PM.

I drove it regularly in the 80's. probably a ton more traffic now. Also the speed limit was 55 then....and you got nailed for driving fast when the roads were icy. Anyway. Continue.

I live between 10 mins and 1.5 hours drive to 9 different resorts in the Wasatch but I will still make the 6 hour pilgrimage to Lone Peak this Winter. Why? The Gnar.

If you don't get it you don't get it.

How ironic, I lived in PC in the 80s.

Lots and lots of traffic now. Lots more snow plowing and a lot less black ice as well.

Ok, one last time. You gnar fans are not why places like Big Sky spend money. Dirtbags are not very profitable.

Of the three ski areas near bozeman, the only one that always operates in the black is the one that caters to dirtbags and locals.

    Big Sky $150M development

I live in the Mtn. Village. Been here a few years but not as long as some of you old dirtbags. Own a business, have a couple jobs. Ski every day. Moved here for the gnar.

I am stoked on the recent investments. Better infrastructure means more bike trails, more bars and apres, more resort tax revenue, more money for everyone. COL is already expensive it won't get much worse except for maybe real estate.

Even if the town becomes busier, it will never be a ski resort along a major interstate (I90/I70) and there are zero major metropolitan feeder markets like Seattle, Denver, SLC. I'm not worried about Big Sky ever becoming saturated with those types of crowds. We will never have hour long lift lines. It will always be a pain in the ass to get to and cold as shit.

^^^ This is why I remain in this part of Montana. Big Sky is a cash cow for me and I am not done milking it just yet. You live in Hill or Cedar Creek?

And that ski area is spending a zillion dollars on amenities?
That ski area pays cash for everything and carries zero debt, they sell about 10K season passes each year which provides their operating capital and then some, they are required to plow back their profits into the area and into the staffing, strange model eh?

They also have some very nice on hill lodges for amenities (Much nicer than down south). Oh and the on hill food is decent and affordable.

    You would hate it there.

Nope but pencil pushing Joey wannabe from NYC is and he really wants to be able to come back from vacation and gather with his coworkers around the water cooler to talk about how rad he (thinks) he got on his week at Bigsky.
