    Boulder Road Thread

I know there isn't alot of interest in road rides around here but thought I'd throw some of my rides up in case anybody wanted to join in the fun.

    So first go 'round:

    Friday May 27
    Meet 7am Vics on Broadway
~30 miles (Old stage, 63rd loop or something...)
    Pace: moderate, recovery ride
    I think I'm going mad.

Too bad I have to be at work before 9 or else I would be down for a moderate loop tomorrow. Maybe some other time. Keep us posted.

You're riding Old Stage as a recovery ride?

Guys- I'm pretty new on the road bike and am looking for some moderate hill climbs... any suggestions for decent climbs with r/t distances of about 20-25 miles?

I think going up to Jamestown is a good moderate climb and from Boulder it is about 20 – 25 mi loop depending on how you go and where you start. Otherwise, you can get a bit longer and go to Lyons and do a Fruit Loop or two for more rolling, less continuous climbs. Up Flagstaff and down to the Walker Trail head and back is about 20 miles but def. steeper. Up Boulder Canyon to Sugar Loaf Rd to the top and back is 25 -30 miles or so but Sugar Loaf is steep. If you start in Lyons and ride up St. Vrain to the Ward turn off that is a good 11 mile climb (22 r/t & ~3% or so).

Just few suggestions. Lots more if you want to make some big loops.

It's not the ride that makes it a recovery ride but the pace : read slow.

Has anyone ever ridden the course for the now defunct Saturn road race, Boulder to Breck? I think the cumulative climbing is over 14K, it looks like it would be an amazing ride.

You guys happen to know if sugarloaf mountain road outside of boulder is paved or not? Looking to live there, and bike commute. I understand its pretty brutal, but I'd be killing it after riding it for two months.

The main road up Sugarloaf is paved quite a ways up- how far exactly, I'm not sure. Sugarloaf Mountain Road, which is a road off the main Sugarloaf road, is not paved. If I'm thinking of the correct one, its the dirt road about 5 miles up from Boulder Canyon that goes off to the right- to the trailhead that goes to the top of Sugarloaf Mtn.
I was wondering the same thing- I know for sure that Sugarloaf isn't paved all the way to the Peak-to-Peak, but its paved for a good ways of it. Its a hell of a climb.

My sister lives up Sugarloaf, near Betasso Preserve. That road is paved, but in that rough, rockyish kind of way...steep too

I have not ridden it but have wanted to do a loop outta Dillon that would incorporate a some of it later this summer. Dillon-Loveland-Georgetown-Guenella-Grant-Fairplay-Breck-Dillon. Have two other riders that would be interested as well.

I might be interested in a late summer suffer fest over some passes in the Summit county area. Update if anything is in the works.

Just moved to Boulder...anyone want to ride this week? I live about a mile downhill from the switzerland trail.

I've got my ss mountain bike out with me, and my road bike should be arriving this week.

Also...anyone got a stand I could use to get my bike in order?

You know, it isn't all paved. I'm pretty sure Guenella pass is pretty rough kinda maintained dirt. During the Saturn race, a big part of strategy was to get a mountain bike to the leaders before the descent.

yep - I'll be road riding this week. Got a few other rides already planned but will be going for road ride on Friday. I tentatively have the day off. Leaving Boulder about 10am or so. Anybody wanna join? Thinking 50 to 80 mi
    route.

Guenella - no it's not paved but that shouldn't worry, we're not trying to race it and I don't ride tubulars, so no problem.

I have a stand you can borrow. FYI, it's a basic Park stand (if it matters, which it might).
A lot of people earn their turns. Some just get bigger checks.
