    Question Flying with a 4 month old.........(NSR)

First time will be tommorrow. The three of us head to Prescott, AZ for some high 70's sunny weather via SLC to Phoenix and see the grandparents. 2 seats, 2 parents and the baby girl.

Golf, beers, craft fair, good eats, ...........

Taking her in the Baby Bjorn on the plane.

Advice, experiences, do I need to take a lot of drugs before hand and more after, ................?????

Xavier, why are you always asking questions to which you already know the answer?

No you need to hand out drugs to everyone else! You are used to the kid crying, everyone else is not. Before every flight, I always pray that a kid will not be yelling, screaming, or crying on the flight!

No you need to bring lots of drugs for those around you. Please be considerate, all too many people beleive that it is their right let their precious little one treat the plane like a nursery. Last week I had to endure trailer baby and trailer family crying, elbowing me, baby shit smell, baby puke smell all the way back from DC. A short appology would have been nice.

It seems to me that a lot of babies have problems with the decent. The pressure build-up in their ears gets to them. Anyone know of way to relieve this pressure in infants?

Feed them a bottle on the takeoff and landing, the sucking helps equalize the pressure.

In my vast experience; over 15 solo flights a year with my #1 son, I learned:
    · Key to not having their ears hurt is to have a bottle of formula (not Makers) ready for them at take off, or right about the time the fuselage pressurizes. And especially have another when you land. Remember you are dropping down to near sea level in AZ. So they will feel it.
    · If she is sick or stuffed up give her some children’s Tylenol, or similar before the flight this helps so much. but check with your Dr for a dosage. How does she travel in a vehicle normally? Does she sleep? She seemed super quiet when I met her so I think you will be ok. Its usually the pressure that gets them.
    · Last but certainly not least, check with your gate agent and ask if there is availability for a whole row (3 seats) for you and Ms Buzz, that way T can sit in between you two after take off. Unless you purchased a seat/ticket for her you wont be able to sit her in her own seat. So plan on having her sit on your laps. If it’s a fairly empty flight I would think a good agent will work with you and hook you up. If not it does not hurt ask other passenger to help you out.

Buzz I think you will be fine. T will be a pleasure to fly with. Just hope she doesn’t take a real smelly dookie, because that changes everything

I am going to call Big BULLSHIT on the mid 70* it was 105 in PHX yesterday biatch!

    I almost forgot:
If you think there is a chance of getting a whole row to yourselves, then by all means bring your car seat on board. if the flight is full then you can always gate check it!

As a frequent flier, I can deal with the screeching & screaming baby easily, but I cannot deal with a baby kicking/elbowing me or the seatback if they're behind me. Restrain the babe! I once had to deal with a 1 year old kid behind me kicking my seatback for 5 hours from SLC to Detroit. After an hour I turned around and asked the parents to restrain the kid. The father became livid and demanded that the stewardess move me to a different seat on a full flight.

If the babe is crying cuz of the air pressure, rub the spot right behind the babe's ears gently to equalize the pressure of the cabin with their sinus & nasal cavities. Usually it's just a matter of working some mucuous loose.

I felt really sorry for my friends who had to endure a screeching baby for nearly 8 hours from Honolulu to Houston. That had to have sucked.

Heh, I was talking with 2P and he said to bring a ton of those 1 oz bottle of liquor for the plane and I would add a case of ear plugs to that. Wish I was rich.

She is a very good girl and doesnt cry too much, one of us can normally get her to calm down, or E sticks a boob in her mouth and that helps everytime.

Foggy, I hear ya, I am amazed at the lack of discipline these days. It is not like they own the plane. And I plan to apologize in advance. I travel a decent amount too and every flight back to SLC is FULL of kids. Most are very good, but then there is always that one.

Viva, sucking helps is what I read, especially feeding (which I am not sure if they are going to let her feed from mom on decent, anyone know? Does she have to be strapped into me on the Baby Bjorn?). The up and the down is the most worrysome. Plus we have 3 binkys in the bag and will have 2 full bottles for the ride down and 2 for the ride back.

Being considerate is why I put this up as well. Any trick that helps others to not have to hear Taylor crying is great. Yes, I am used to it, but others are not.

And the stinky diaper thing, well, this dad knows all too well how to change a diaper. That is bad form on those trailer kids parents, plus a good way to start a rash (and once they start, they tend to stick around for a little bit). Plus I don't want to smell diaper either.

Woodsy, I know not why I ask such questions???

No problem on the feeding during landing, they want the infant in arms.

Just who I was looking for:

2nd car seat went down with M&D a month ago, so she will be sitting on our laps, only hour and 35 minutes or so flight.

Taylor falls right to sleep in the car, and she likes the bouncy Jeep as opposed to the smooth Subie ride. Not on formula yet, so bottle of breast milk will be on hand as well as the 2 sources of said milk. I think you are right, she should be fine.

Dookie not bad smelling yet, but if she blows, it can be messy, will have lots of wipes and what not.

She turned 4 months yesterday so the elbowing is not a problem. I understand completely 13!

And Erica has gotten real good at the covert feeding. She cares little anyway, it is a boob.

It's easy, man. Only when you add the multiple kids, illness, flight cancellations, and traveling without your wife to help does it get interesting. I am sure someone said it above, but antibacterial wipes are good.

a nice cheap Aquafina bottle works great with Vodka too, not like I would know or will have for sure anything like that.

    I agree.

SFO to DEN late night flight i was seated next to a screaming infant and there was another one seated behind me balling its head off. i couldn't get any sleep. weak. the infants fly for free on mom's lap but the airline should group them all in a section of the plane to minimize the disruption to the other passengers who paid buku$$$ for their own space in the flying sardine can.

ditto for morbidly obese people whose fat folds flow over the armrest and into your seat. force them to buy two seats.
