Saw another griz while hiking at Many Glacier yesterday, about 20 yards off the trail raking hucks into its mouth.

Brandine: Now Cletus, if I catch you with pig lipstick on your collar one more time you ain't gonna be allowed to sleep in the barn no more!
Cletus: Duly noted.
Rode up to the top of the area today, on the way down i see a black dog on the trail but it aint a dog its a cub and theres another cub behind him, they immediately climb trees so I'm thinking wtf is the sow ?
Then I see the sow off to one side chuffing , going back the way I came doesnt look good, turn around and beat it out of there

Ran into this guy at the end of a long trail run the other weekend. He seemed more curious than scared, when he first saw me (standing still b/c I saw him first) he walked from about 80' away to about 40' to get a better look at me, and then stood about 15' off the road and let me walk up and past him without any fuss.

I've seen pairs of males up in Millcreek relatively frequently, they seem to hang out and graze together a fair bit without conflict. Younger bulls, the old scraggly ones are always solo. Can't say I've seen males bedded down together though.
Ran into this dude while riding a dirt road this weekend. He was a ways from his burrow and I got to follow his fat jiggly ass and belly as he ran home. Quite curious, he stayed at the entrance and watched me turn around for a 2nd ride-by to take pics. I don't know that he'll last the season given that's willing to cruise the road in broad daylight, the place is rife with dumb fuckers driving their giant trucks at 60 mph or raging around on ATVs. Got passed by a dude driving a Razor, whole family on board, he intentionally swerved to run over a prairie dog, you could hear the fucking kids squeal with joy. Too bad they didn't roll the rig and get mangled.

This critter decided to hang with me on the balcony this evening.
Apparently this hawk decided to sleep on the railing, been there for 2 hours with his/her head tuck under his/her wing.

Got to watch (sorry no photos) a group of 5 or 6 river otters feeding on crayfish in our local creek this morning. Thought about mentioning something to all the summer camp kids groups frolicking nearby, but ....... nah.

new wolf pack in California found 200 miles south of previous confirmed pack

^^^At least one member of this new pack is a direct descendant of OR7, who came out of the Imnaha pack in NE OR.
He rambled to SW OR, then down as far as Susanville before returning to Southern OR. Sired at least seven pups.
Ha! Wolfie be a ..................... WOLF!
The stat I've read is 85% of snake bites are males between 15-35, and between elbow and fingertips. LOL

you only catch 0% of the snakes you don’t try to catch

from Yosemite NP
A new scheme to hike Half Dome without a permit just dropped: be a bear.
Hikers who secure a Half Dome permit and tackle the legendary 425 feet of cable are treated to some incredible views of Yosemite Valley. But it seems they may not be alone up there! Rangers recently discovered evidence of a black bear's presence on the summit of Half Dome. Yosemite bears are excellent climbers and can easily tackle the 46-degree angle- no cables needed!
This observation serves as a good reminder that bear safety applies EVERYWHERE in Yosemite. Keep all smelly objects, from food to sunscreen, locked in a bear locker or bear canister. If you need to keep food in your car during the day, it must be out of sight, with the car windows rolled up and doors locked- at night it must be in a bear locker. While nobody drives up Half Dome, Yosemite bears are great at opening car doors in the Valley if they smell something tasty. Whether at camp or on the trail, always keep backpacks and scented items within arm's reach- bears and other animals (like the Half Dome ground squirrels) will approach unattended bags quickly and are likely to create a few new holes before you notice them! For the safety of people and animals alike, keep your friends close and your food closer.

Could you imagine hauling up your summit beer and summit salami all the way up there just to have a bear bust in and take it from you
You need a fucking permit to hike Half Dome? JFC
yeah it’s that crowded

The California pack announced this evening it's moving to Michigan. And the Oregon pack is going to Ohio.
Had a guy--250 punds plus--bit by a Pacific diamonback that got him in a vein in the back of his hand. We gave him over 40 vials of antivenom. He died within hours of the bite.
And it's sad that there's enough trash on top of Half Dome to make it worth a bear's while to climb up there.

This little guy is in my yard and won't fly. I don't see his mother around, but my Chessie had him in his mouth. I think that he either fell out of his nest with last nights storm, or has been discarded.
EDIT: Turns out he is an adult Kestrel with a damaged wing. Park City Hummingbird Hospital (Yes, there is such a thing, and yes they did a Sunday house call) picked him up and will try to repair, before releasing him in the neighborhood. Cute little bugger.
