for my personal preference I want a dog with good temperment then can handle snow and even overnights in the BC....I basically need a snow dog....

    suggestions?

And get a dog from a breeder who imports German lines. There will be a bunch of acronyms following the names of the parents on the lineage documents; you want to see the following for both parents: Sch (I II or III), KKL 1 or KKL 1 LBZ. Ask about hips and elbow certs...if one of the parents is foreign, there may not be OFA certification, but German certification, which is even more strict. But if parents have ann OFA cert of "good" or better, the chances of hip or elbow displaysia are greatly reduced.

First of all, that's an awful topline IMO... No wonder the president of the SV, Herr Raiser, advocated Malinois and Dutch Shepherd blood be added back to the GSD to "bring it back"...

Secondly, why should a dog that will be living as a pet come from working parents? I understand the need to breed function from function, and understand that the GSD Should still be a working breed, but come on... You're saying the parents should be Sch. I/II/III...

It's of no use in this context, and as long as the the parents have health clearances, I would ask for no more than a BH, and maybe a SchHA... Or a Brevet in Ring... He's not looking to go to the podium, just wants a sound, healthy animal.
