I just need a quick summary is all.

DW, I culled a few phrases from the press release that could be incorporated into the new '16/'17 Magic thread title.

"Make Magic Stoked Again"! --- (w/ ! outside the " mark)
"It was either Magic or Whistler/Blackcomb"
"Tak(ing) people back to skiing’s golden era"
    "Mak(ing) Magic happen"
The hypotenuse of the "Golden Triangle" is back

stay tuned - lots of big plans in the works.

Always followed the Magic threads and love the stoke, but holy shit, if I had a nickel every time I heard this, I could buy the place!

I'll give the relatively short answer from someone with a decent connection to the place and that lives 3,500 miles away

After finally getting the number of shares for the coop/partnership to move forward it was discovered that it was fatally flawed in the way in which it was set up/navigated through securities regulations. The partnership was then dissolved after never really forming and some people got their money back while others essentially made a donation to the improvements (however tiny) and operations of the ski area for a year or two. Then the guy who was running it from 06 to roughly 2014 was tossed and one of the actual property owners stepped in to run the place. He failed on numerous accounts with weather certainly not helping. The group that just signed on to buy the place is a group of Magic skiers (and probably some other backers) who hope to make it sustainable without changing what makes Magic, well, magic. They have their work cut out for them. Hopefully they focus on getting the infrastructure and operations up to snuff and then get to marketing the place. A couple decent snow years will help. Good luck Magic!!

As one of the happy coop idiots who made a donation, what most concerns me at this point is whether the new buyer group has enough money lined up to really get it done.

IMHO and without a lot of detail to back this up, it seemed like there really were two flaws in the Magic coop concept. First was the failure to do state securities registrations, which didn't bother me all that much (though obviously others thought differently). Second was not raising enough cash to really turn the place around from an operations standpoint and to withstand the inevitable weather problems that can kill weeks, months, or whole seasons.

Here's hoping the new owners not only close the deal in a few weeks, but have the resources to see it through.

I'll make it super simple and easy....

All that bullshit and craziness you've heard and have questions about?

That was the old ownership/management, which has been running and owning things for the past decade or so. They are 100% out as soon as this goes through.

The people that were annoyed with all the aforementioned shenanigans?

That is the new ownership. They are all Magic skiers and riders, and they are done watching the place suffer. Lots of things already in motion and they have got a solid plan- or at the very least one that's fucking eons ahead of the "plan" otherwise. Believe me when I say this is a very, very good thing as it severs tangible ties with the old guard completely.

Sounds pretty amazing, but will they let a bunch of maggots infest the property for this October's Ullrfest?

Seriously, I am stoked. Magic is amazing and I am so happy to hear it will open again. Can't wait to hear when it's a done deal.

Ullrfest is now a beloved event at Magic. People are already looking forward to it!

    That is the question1

Forget all that "To be or not to be....", you nailed the ultimate question right there! ...even if the answer might not be 42.

That's nice, but, what's the business plan? How much capital is available?

This is literally the whole plan.

Dogs get in free if they bark/growl when shown a picture of Benny too.

Isn't the only question that the new ownership has to answer is whether they will accept my poker chip found in my pocket from last season for a free ride up black?

Hope and Change. With the hope that Hathaway has $10+ million in change he can dump into the place to make it a viable ski area. One paint brush and 3 sheets of 80 grit per passionate volunteer ain't gonna cut it.

No but there's a shitload of work to be done that can be accomplished for free or darn close to it, thus stretching dollars or effectiveness of expenditures MUCH farther. Lots of skilled laborers and service-oriented company owners in that volly pool lemme tell ya! Not just painting and trail maintenance, that's for sure.

Everyone involved knows how much of an uphill battle this is going to be, and has welcomed the challenge. If you want to know how it's all going to get done I'd be happy to show ya on a volunteer day BBQ dude!

Thanks for the invite DW but I've unfortunately got my hands full at my very own VT money pit. If I'm going to chainsaw a finger off, I figure I may as well do it at my place. I will stop over this winter and buy a full price ticket, some tasty fried food and a large Coke for lunch. And of course give Rusty a bro-hug.

As I've said before, I do applaud your efforts and hope this time around things work out for Magic.

I love MRG but with snow and 2 chairs running I'm there can't wait! Also fuck bunny he's a turd who lives his life behind a computer screen sad but true
