2015-16: What was the most bizarre thing you saw on mountain?

I had a bunch of H.S. friends come and stay with me for a week in Jan. I remembered all as being good skiers. Currently, they are spread throughout the country, and some have not skied in 20 years. I had to lend a few skis, gloves, boots, jackets....you name it. My wife cut out for the week. Before she left, she told me not to lend out her stuff. Of course, I did not listen and lent someone her favorite pair of Auras. We were riding up the Super Condor chair. There were three friends on the chair in front of my chair. As we approached the top of the lift, I was yucking it up with a friend. All of a sudden, we noticed one of the girls in the chair in front of us, who was at the point to disembark, plant a tip into the hard snow, face plant (BOOM) right where she should have stood and exited the chair. Damn near broke her nose. The lifts stopped the lift and ran to her aid. The patrollers exited the hut and did the same. Six or seven of us were laughing our asses off. When I finally got off the chair, I looked down at my wife skis, and one of the tips (not the one she dug into the hardback) was bent at a 75 degree angle. Damned metal skis!!!

2015-16: What was the most bizarre thing you saw on mountain?

While teaching my 4 year old on the easy green at Copper, saw a Chinese guy who could barely ski, with a glistening silver outfit on and matching silver space helmet with goggles. Sent it into Jerry of the Day.

I posted this elsewhere, but a guy dropped a loaded 9mm in the middle of a green run during spring break, didn't notice, and skied away...on snowblades. Asshole.

Ski instruction on Xtal bunny hill being given to group of adults who had clearly never skied before... all of them and the "instructor" were completely kitted out in full on weight weenie ski touring set ups, brake less tech bindings, adjusty, poles, packs etc...

Mountaineers or Mazamas class?.... There were lots of confabs and team talks going on Boeing Mountain climbing club whatever it's called? Bizarre, they were at it all day... pizza and french fries... hilarious.

Workin' at a heliski resort last season; a guest shows up in the morning ready to ride his snowboard in a full clown outfit. Kudos for creativity in a pretty conservative context. Was relieved it was clown and not mime; at least Clowns have street cred....

Riding up lift 4 at Telluride in March sometime so the hill is full of spring breakers. The chair goes right over the entrance to the lower park and as we near it I see one guy laying down on the snow above the first box in the park and another guy on his knees kind of leaning over the top of the box. I'm thinking these guys probably hit each other or one is pretty fucked up so I look close as the lift nears.

Turns out one of these beaters somehow skied fucking straight at the box and didn't jump, or at least not high enough. And now his ski was stuck inside the box with the tip of his rental ski poking out from under the plastic top about 2 feet down and the rest hanging in the air kinda like one of those platforms in those lumberjack competitions.

The guy on his knees is trying to hammer the tip back out and the guy on the ground is using his legs to push off the box and heave ho the fucker out of there like it's Excalibur and whoever can remove it will be crowned the true gaper king.

In my amazement I was unable to get a photo and it had snowed up high so I didn't go down for another lap. But that definitely tops my list this year.

Late season pow morning at Ajax. Pow fever is strong that AM. It's a Saturday so gongshow in gondola plaza. Tourists are gone for the most part since this is early april. Guy comes galloping with excitement out of the Little Nell going for the powder tours line that gets to skip the normal gondola line for extra $$ and a few early groomers. The reason he is galloping is because his boot straps are still velcroed together so he keeps high stepping instead of taking a normal stride. Its like he never noticed. Hope he didn't ski that day like so.

While waiting for a friend to catch up at JH, I saw a guy with what looked like an iphone duct taped to his helmet. He skied by us and I thought "WTF?"

How could you tell they were European?

Wasn't this season but the Grubstake Peak per remains fairly notorious in WA state.

Off loaded & skated across a flat admiring the view on a clear day of the mountains. Then I saw it. A snowboarder bent over with his hairy ass crack showing. Was tramitized for the rest of the day. Drugs were not enough to undue what had been seen.
