My family has old roots in Toutle and Castle Rock. As a kid, we never went up to St. Helens, I finally went up the highway on the North Side with my parents roughly 20 years after the eruption and both of my parents talked about how it was so heartbreaking because they'd spend summers on Spirit Lake. For them, it was kind of a painful experience to see it and remember what it was.
