Gawd damn Obama
dirtbag, not a dentist
It's been pretty bad so far this summer-
It would be great if the park would somewhat profile these foreign groups and make sure that they are aware of the rules. After all when you go to camp in Yosemite etc they make you read and sign the stuff about bears, your food chapstick etc
There was also a group photographed walking out onto grand prismatic geyser area this past w/e and they just fessed up to it and offered an apology on fb-
"High on Life Sunday Fundayz" - guess they make ugly t shirts

no joke- those roads just opened on Fri and some still closed - dunraven and beartooth will open later this month
but there have already been several incidents - this "bison petting" was about a month ago.

I didn't believe in reincarnation when I was your age either.
Reminds me of a couple I saw on Adams last year. Both wearing shorts and thin shirts. He carried a 10ish liter pack with nothing more than two little bottles of water and a couple snacks. They had no maps, compass, or extra layers. No way to call for help either. They couldn't understand when I told them how quick the weather could change up there and that they were being foolish.
I vote we stop helping the idiots and let natural selecting do it's thing.
I hear traffic at yellowstone has been up like crazy in the last few years. The 'find your park' campaign in conjunction instagram #adventurevibes #liveauthentic culture cant be helping. The parks are so underfunded, at some point something really bad is going to happen. Makes you wonder why the people behind the park service would be pushing an ad campaign without raising funding for rangers and staff.
On a related note, the outdoor shop in bozeman where I used to work had a story that a few years back they sold bear spray to an asian tourist, and he didn't understand what it was for. Thinking it was a repellant, the man proceeded to spray down his family before heading to the park. This is probably an urban legend, but I continue to tell it.
not an urban legend
I think a woman did this on the Jenny Lake boat 2 or 3 summers ago
also found this facebook page called Yellowstone idiots about all the idiotic tourist moves for those that want to stay updated

Well, since being outside is now a lifestyle thing where every possible trail, feature, objective is published on the internet or front page of some glossy magazine it is hardly surprising, right?
All you need to do is buy the shoes and pack on pg 10, a $30 insulated water bottle and you too can post hashtags from the latest overrun outdoor experience.
My wife likes to watch the Today show (I know, I know) and one of the idiot talking heads was saying how wrong it was to euthanize the calf, lots would want to adopt it. Note to idiot talking head--you do know that bison calves grow into full size bison don't you? Wnat one of those in your backyard? Note to KQ--what about it--room for a bison on your place?
Heard at a mission church in NM (forget which one):
Ranger--notice the hand forged nails.
Touron--nails? they didn't have nails way back then did they?
Ranger--how do you think they hung Christ on the cross, Velcro?
That's funny.
Another reason national parks are increasing visitor numbers is the fact that it's basically free for the above 62 demographic (plus a few companions), and the older Boomers are increasing in numbers by 10,000 a day. It's a cheap way to see some nice scenery, now that they have nothing else to do.

Dumb tourists starting at 1:30
This just heard (510pm) on Sacramento CBS local news--they're looking for a hiker missing west of Donner Summit (Loch Leven lakes area). The reporter standing in the Forest Service parking lot tells the camera that the sun will probably be going down in a few hours. Probably?

Call me crazy but I'm back in Ohio for some family graduation shit and the "National Park 100 Year Anniversary" shit seems to be bringing out the tourons.
Took the dog down to Cuyahoga Valley National Park for an easy jaunt on a favorite old trail of mine along some glacial ledges. Saw several people, some kind of Russian/Eastern Euros, trying to 'leave their mark' by etching their names into the sandstone cliffs. Not popular by any means at this location.
Normally I'd walk by but this irked me as this place was a youthful favorite and said to them that they'd better cut it out because there was a ranger right behind me.
The 'behind me' was actually just a couple from the burbs in some very tasteful olive colored Patagonia gear that the Cossacks mistook for Rangers and swiftly moved on.
I still call it The Jake.
