    Ski Mounting Question

    Here's the sitch:

    *Brand-new spatulas
    *Fritschi freerides

Had the skis drilled in Squaw, holes are perfect.

Screwed in one binding, then started on the second one, and realized that I forgot to put the grey plastic heelpiece under the heel mechanism. I had the screws torqued as hard as I could with a screwdriver (not a drill). I panicked, and unscrewed them slowly with my swearig and denouncement of last night's alcohol consumption. There was no base bubbling. I then put the plate under where it belongs, then re-screwed slowly and carefully.

Should I unscrew again and put glue/epoxy to fill the void undoubtedly left by my idiotically penetrating the holes too deep by forgetting the plastic riser??? Or should I be fine???

    Thanks

You don't have to crank the screws that hard. You should notice when they stop going anywhere.

You'll probably be fine, but I'd get some wood glue in there for a watertight bond. Epoxy is overkill, but you can do that alternatively. Just be careful when you get the screws out at a later time, make sure to heat the screws to loosen the bond. The extra depth of the holes can't affect anything other than the base.

If the holes aren't stripped, and there's no dimpling, then your skis are as good as new. Nothing to worry about.

Thanks Sphinx - I'll leave em as-is and see what happens. Sounds like, if you're right, I should be fine.

you did use some wood glue in each of the holes (all around) didn't you?

No wood glue - I was told by Gunnar and Emily at Granite Chief as well as the guy who invented the skis not to.
