Not really a good barometer of desire.

930, 964, and 993 were all easily attainable 4 years ago. That market is soft right now. When I was running the Porsche store, I was buying 993Ts for 70k.

996 will appreciate, and the Turbo doesn't have the IMS issue.

Now is a good time to pick up one, for a reasonable price.

As far as the whose faster argument. You can buy a R35 GTR for 45k, and destroy pretty much everything talked about here. 20k more in bolt ons, and you can take out 918s.

Hell, a 2010 GTR will give a TDF a run for its money. TDF is a 1.5 Million dollar car.

    almost 10 years old

Performance aside, the Porsche is still the better looking car.

    Responsive handling.

The most sensitive car on the road (tm). When I drove one a buddy would verify once a month or so that it was the vaunted CLI model. Good times.

I don't see how price can be anything other than a barometer of desire. Desire comes and goes, but you can build the very best, world class, no-expense-spared widget, and if no one desires it, it won't be worth anything. There's no way in hell any of those cars actually justify their current prices, with the only exception being the 996T. The other cars are "worth" more money now, only because the people who grew up wishing they could own one are the people buying them. 5 years ago, the 964 was still the bastard child that no one wanted, and anything with more than 2.7L displacement was "new fangled technology". Maybe the 996T will appreciate, but I've yet to see the article that says "Buy a 996T before prices skyrocket!". They all say "Buy a 996T because it's a good car for $40k". And it is a good car for $40K... I don't see how the IMS issue is even on anyone's radar at this point, since the fix can be implemented so consistently. But the Mezger engine is surely worth something. Possibly there is a generation working their way toward financial stability that can't wait to buy a 996... I just haven't met any of them.

Also - I specifically mentioned the GTR... The fact that the 996T is faster (than a fucking Golf of all things) is completely meaningless, especially in the overall context of the 911. The 996T is better looking than all the other 996's, and that pic you posted is possibly the best looking one I've ever seen. But just for arguments sake, let's take a look at a couple of others:

And again, there's no argument about whether the 996T is a better looking sports car than the Golf R. The Golf R is a good looking hatchback. This is what a good looking 911T looks like:

I think if Stfu used more words, he'd make the point better.

    Per the internet, the Golf R isn't a hatchback. It's a hot-hatch* that's slower than a $12k 996 on its last legs.

    *Used in a sentence:
The young man took a deep pull from his vape pen as he scanned the stoplight for a worthy adversary to race his hot-hatch.

You're all wacky. I learned in another thread that you won't even be able to buy a gasoline powered car in 10 yrs.

I love the commercial asking "Do you know how much your house is worth? Not just what you heard on the street, or a guess, but the real value!"

The value of anything is exactly what someone is willing to pay for it. No more or less

My friend just bought a clean 996, a c4s, with just under 100k miles. He is exactly the type aspiring to, and making the leap to first time Porsche ownership. As is our resident dromo. So yes, they are out there. Lucky for them, they sold a bunch of them. Would they rather have a 964 3.6 turbo? Yeah probably. Or an 89 944 turbo? Probably again. 😁

But if you really want an affordable classic, and you have kids, and you love convertibles, have I got the car for you. I haven't put an ad out there yet, but it's coming in the near future... If you are interested, pm me.

    It's for sale.

I might be able to interest my pops in that 325, depending on price. His tdi went back to vw and he bought a truck. He might be interested in another german, it's been a while. He's in Cottonwood Heights.

If you have to ask, you can't afford it.

Currently trying to trade my 930T, a Challenge Stradale, and a 365 GT4 BB for this 10 year old 911. I got a 17 Turbo S yesterday too, if any of you dentist need one.

Capable of running from 0-60 mph in under 3.5 seconds and hitting a top speed in excess of 220 miles per hour (354 km/h) - actual recorded top speed was 217 mph (349 km/h) - the CTR2 was one of the fastest production supercars in the world, capable of out-running Ferrari'sF50 (193 mph), Jaguar's XJ220 (213 mph), and performing on par with Nissan's R390 GT1 (220 mph). The one million dollar McLaren F1 was the only other production car at the time which was later found to have performed better under testing, by 1998, making the Ruf CTR2 the 2nd fastest production car of the day.

Not sure if the Golf R or 996T is faster, but we'll get to the bottom of it.

996T is faster on paper, but the R is faster on the internet.

Love how RUFs wheels are basically the same since the 80s. And they still look great

There was a nice lookin 997? can't remember, at PC cars and coffee the other day with the RUF wheels. Very nice. Always been a fan. There is a guy in salt lake with a 944 turbo running some older ruf wheels, they look badass.

    I think it was a black 993 C4S with the RUFs. There's a black 944T with sport classic style wheels that's parked in 3300 S & ~3000 E. The wheels might be 18s from a Carrera
