That's a nice car. Buddy has a gold wagon with 250k or so. Thing is a tank

The 2007 CL600 was misfiring (coil pack) and needed new engine mounts.
$1400 including parts. Bargain compared to dealer. What a difference new engine mounts make on a car that powerful.
Speed stats are way off in that article. Not 5.3. I've driven several CL550's. Pretty meh.. The Leather in the 600 is terrific. so fuck you! Lol. But yeah, that's probably why my dual pane passenger window got shot out in the safeway parking lot.
Here's the facts fwiw:
the 4800-pound CL600 will reach 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds. The quarter-mile marker blurs by at 113 mph in a brief 12.8 seconds, and that's just 0.2 second behind the fabulous new Audi R8 mid-engined supercar.
Yeah, but does it have a name?
I still call it The Jake.
Doug demuro is an idiot. Makes me want to give up cars when I hear him talk.

I try to watch his videos but he doesn't spend much time driving. Jethro Bovington is more fun to watch, but I'm biased.
P.s. there's a 72 911T with 268rwhp on BaT. Probably gonna go for silly money, but it's pretty to look at.
4.3 is pretty pokey, when cars are sub 3 seconds, for the same money.
R8 V10 Plus does 0-60 in 2.8 and the 1/4 in 10.6. http://www.motortrend.com/cars/audi/...t-test-review/

I spent an afternoon trying to convince myself to buy a 996TT. So much car, for so little money... I did not succeed. The car is ugly and boring to drive (relatively speaking). But more to the point - no one wants a 996 anything. They get the 996, because they're nearly free... But that car is a fucking turd on wheels. I've never driven another car that fast that felt so goddamned slow.
I think 996 Turbos, are the next to start appreciating. If you really want it, offer 30k.

Re: New vs old car performance and value... The idea that the 996 is in any way a "better" 911 because it's faster is completely anathema to the premise of the 911. If you want the fastest car, or the best handling car, or the most exotic looking car, or really - the most "anything" car, you're not looking for a 911. And it's not even like it's an "attainable" supercar anymore, since the base Carrera is about as fast as a Ford Focus RS for twice the money, a GT3 RS is in the same ball park as a Ferrari 488, and a used GTR will blow the doors off anything short of a new Turbo S for $100k less. The 996 is a horrendous adaptation of a car that only excels at being itself. If you bought a 996 because it's fast, man are you going to be pissed when you're getting passed by stock Mitsubishi EVO IXs.
Not sure I would call it a fad. Just a correction, to an inflated market.

#1 - a car being 16 years old rather than 1 year old is not an attribute.
#2 - The Golf is incredibly easy to live with. The 996T only does one thing - poorly.
#3 - I actually think the market pricing substantiates my opinion exactly. For cars with ~50k miles on the odo:
930T - $100k-$150k
964T - $110k-$220k
993T - $135k-$175k
996T - $40k-$50k
997.1T - $60k-$70k
997.2 - $75k-$95K
Those X50 996 Turbos drove off the lot at about $140K... So, give or take, about 70% depreciation over 16 years. The 997.1 and .2 might eventually approach that same level of depreciation, as they were really just intermediary steps in correcting all that was wrong with the 996. But it'll be a looooooooooong time before you can buy a 991T with 50K miles on it for 70% less than msrp.
The Golf R has an msrp of about $38-40k. I bought my '16 without the DSG/DCC/NAV and about 300 miles on it for $34k. Manual vs. manual, the 996T runs 0-60 in about 4 seconds. The Golf R takes about 5 seconds. Looking at historical values of the R series Golfs, even for the R32, which is widely regarded as the worst of the bunch, a 2004 with ~50k miles is sitting at about $18K today down from an MSRP of $29k, or roughly 38% depreciation over 13 years. My '16 has about 22k miles on it now, and I could sell it for $32-$33k.
Re: mods - you must have been high when you posted this. I can get to a full APR stage 2+ with full brake kit, intercooler, clutch, flywheel, ecu upgrades, intake, downpipe, exhaust - roughly +100bhp, +100ft-lbs - for about $12K, including labor at $150/hr. The same project on a 996T has got to be in the ballpark of $25K - although I'm just guessing... I haven't actually seen a quote. Of course, that doesn't take into consideration that the 996T probably needs $10k worth of maintenance before you could even start upgrading anything.
Bottom line - the 996T is a turd. It's ugly, it's slow and old compared to other cars you could buy for $40k, and those things make its impracticality far more of a detriment than it might be otherwise. The Golf R is a great car for the money. It's good looking, it does not look like it belongs in a Ken Block video, it's as practical as any hatchback on the market, and if you want one that will beat a 996T 0-60, you can have one for less than a 996T.
Should we get into maintenance costs? I didn't think so.
Those older AC 911's are something else. They're not in any way, shape, or form objectively "better" cars. But they are special. The 991 is moving back in the direction of the 911 being special. The 996T couldn't be less special if it had a Dominos delivery sign stuck on top of it.
I too would prefer the Golf to the Beetle.

I'm a Luddite compared to the fancy car dweebos hanging out here despite a moderate amount of wrench time. Didn't know what 4matic's Benz was and googled it... found the first article in the search result amusing after a few beers and posted. Agreed that he is annoying and apologies for touching the nerve and douching up the thread.
I'll crawl back under my Subaru now.
Can't wait to take this one for a spin...
Responsive handling.
