Bought a like-new Fabspeed exhaust for a deep discount because I'm a slow learner. Install took about 4 hours, I get on the road & it's so damn loud & vibratory* it makes a sensor flip out & throw a code. Sooo I'm going to take it off & try to sell for a few dollars more than purchase price. Pick up a less aggressive setup & try again. I think man hours on the car this summer is approaching 20. Being a domesticated animal that likes race car sounds costs a lot of time

*had to pull the pictionary on that one

    Sucks Bromo,

While I've found the 996 to be perfect as is, I always wonder what I'd screw up by adding a few mods here and there. Most wrenching is beyond my pay grade but I'm reminded of Beer Drinker taking all the Fabspeed stuff off his 930.

Separate old car question I've been tasked with: good name for a lifted and outfitted Wrangler. 36s, snorkel, winch, bars, etc.

Thanks - it's all good, I'll get it right. Fabspeed is a honeypot for me. The build is almost done, just need to figure out the right parts that won't interfere with the sensors around the engine. The drive makes all the effort disappear in a few minutes. Learning a lot as well.

Bromo if it makes you feel better, my 944T is a non stop tinker fest. Got it running great a few weeks ago, rich issue completely gone, goes like a scalded cat, now when it gets hot, it won't start for 20 or 30 mins. Wtf.
As long as it is not the daily relied upon driver, it's all good...

Oh yeah, pc cars and coffee this Sunday. I'm bringing that little bimmer convertible up.

does the starter turn over or just click? If just clicking then starter overheating would be my vite. Heat shield in place? I put a 327 into a Vega years ago, had this problem all the time, heat shield solved it.

Yeah, it cranks, and it has fuel pressure, I think the DME (computer) is not firing the injectors. Couple things can cause that. The DME relay can wear out due to heat and time, and then when it is hot, it won't power the dme to fire the injectors. I carry a spare dme relay, so I doubt it is that. Second thing is, and this is the path I am leaning towards, there are two sensors right above the flywheel (because putting them there makes them so easy to access and adjust WTF porsche) and one is the reference sensor (tells dme position of flywheel) and one is the speed sensor. DME relies on the reference sensor to see that the engine is cranking, and you know if the sensor is working or not by the tach. Tach will bounce if sensor is good. When mine has gone into no start condition, the tach doesn't bounce. I have been able to get it to start after fiddling with the connectors for the sensors (motherfuckers are hot with no gloves) and then I start to get a little tach bounce, boom, catches, and we are off! I think the connectors are getting old, and I need to either replace wire harnesses for the sensors altogether, or pull apart and clean contacts, (maybe a lil dielectric grease) and see if that takes care of it for a couple more years.

Little kids like naming the cars.

I've had two cars with names in my time.

    The Assfinder and Highway Star.

    The names are given, earned.

I won't try to tell anyone I'm a master mechanic or even know how to pronounce Porsche but have you tried a new CPS ? Hot/warm no start is a classic failing CPS in most cars. Maybe that's the sensor you're referencing above the fly wheel.

You may be dead on... I figured this was thrown off due to the exhaust rumble as it only surfaced yesterday.

Thanks, I'll work in this direction

The reference sensor on the 944 is comparable to a CPS.

CPS diagnosis that went full science n shit-->

Pulling out an o-scope to diagnose a failing $60 CPS seems a bit OCD to me but ............

Basimbeater- another thing to check on the connector is for the terminals spreading. The heat soak can make enough of a difference to turn a just-barely-tight-enough connection into just barely not tight enough. Do a pin drag test, and replace terminals or the pigtail as needed.

To do the pin drag test, you can disassemble the connector and feel for the friction as you slide each terminal onto a pin in the sensor. Or if you have an old junk sensor, you can take it apart and harvest a pin out of it to use as a pin drag tool.

Awesome. In my experience Hank's been slipping for years. Don't feel too bad, he's redeemable.

Here is the same forum take on the 944 sensors and a hard start when hot. Dude brings in the oscilloscope as well..
