Okay, just looked at the doppler and we are not going to Bountiful - at least not this morning.... Damn.

Meg's leaving town tomorrow, so no riding tonight. My plan is to hit Dry Creek tomorrow morning (skibe, you in?...anyone?) and then I Street in the evening.

Hey AGs. What's the plan for practicing this week/weekend?
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

What time are you riding in the AM? Depending on time, I might be in for that.

hmmm, I rode that today for the first time. Nice trail but I was a little confused and the ride turned out to be only 5 miles total. Would like to join you one of these days so I can see the ins and outs of the trail system up in that area. Looks like lots of potential if you know where your going. Im in PC pretty much every day but time varies so I will pm you next week when things quiet down at work a little.

We have a group doing Muellers Friday at 5:30pm. I know - it's a madhouse at 5:30, but that's the time we can all go...

I could do something tomorrow morning, but it would have to be early - I have a meeting at 10am in Midvale. Likely I'll just head out and do something on my own in the morning. Looks like weather isn't supposed to be cooperating much this week. So as far as Bountiful shuttles go this week, we might not do anything until Saturday. Which is okay really - rain all week should help keep it in good shape for the race.

Tonight's ride (Millcreek Pipeline) was SWEET. Stump is killing it again - he cleaned the rock garden in Rattlesnake Gulch. And I knocked off the last two things I'd never cleaned - that stupid steep hill climb after the big rock (which was just a matter of NEVER having been prepared in the right gear before) and the off-camber, tight exposed switchback in Rattlesnake Gulch. Woohoo!

Good to ride w/Altard again, and Mrs. Larry Ballstein proved to be a kick ass rider too - she is now my favorite uphill pace person in the world and a blast to ride with on the way back down too. Very fun ride tonight. The trail couldn't be in better shape, and it wasn't as crowded as I thought it would be. I want to go back and do it again right now...

I couldn't race, so we went to I Street both days instead. I'm gonna try to make that my one miss of the season, and hit all the other Utah Series races. Pretty frustrating given that Bountiful is the closest in the series . Gonna have to drive to Pomerelle after all...how is it?

    Anyway, you've got PM skibe.

I managed to kick my own ass up in Park City today, riding solo. Went up Spiro to the Mid Mountain trail, then across back toward town, then down John's and Sweeney's. A few notes:

    a) Spiro is a long frickin climb. jesus. not much snow on Spiro at all - one spot I dismounted, right before traversing under the king corn lift.
    b) Its gonna be a while before Mid Mtn is ready. Snow is still 1-2 feet deep in spots, and it looks like one section of the trail got absolutely douched by an avalanche this winter. Passing through involved a sweet to very sweet dismount-->hike through foot of snow while fighting off brambles and angry branches with my free hand.
    c) John's is in nice shape. The construction kind of sucks. Two distinct logging/construction roads have been cut across the hill. I'm sort of a JONG out there, so it was a bit annoying finding my way back to the trail at the roads, but otherwise not too bad. Because of said jongishness, I'm not sure if there were other issues, but where I think I connected with Sweeney's there was a sign saying something about portion of hte trail being closed for construction. I'm not sure if that is meant for the uphillers or for a different downhill trail.
c1) Sweeney's beat me down. I had a hard time getting into a decent flow.
    d) Sweetest move of the day by far - cruising down near town, see two fine ladies running up the trail, so I figure I'll be courteous and pull over and let them pass. I make the mistake of pulling off on the downhill side, put my foot down, turn an ankle on the slope, and tumble off my bike and downhill. Ladies stopped to see if I was okay, suppressing their laughter. It <--- killed.

Anyways, I'm leaving for the east coast for a week on Wednesday, so I'd like to get a ride or two in. You guys doing the morning thing?

Race today at Bountiful was really fun.

Highlights: I finished my 2 runs without a scratch. And my first run was 100% clean - I've never done that before in a race. But it was slow as hell. So much for riding clean being faster. And my 2nd run I managed to get my head closer to being in the right place, rode faster and smoother, but had 2 minor washouts and 1 major wreck about 10 feet short of the finish line and still shaved 22 seconds off of my time from the first run. God I suck. Apparently I provided quite a show at the finish line - launched the jump, dissappeared out of sight into a cloud of dust and then had to run/drag my bike up the face of the kicker that is the finish line. People said the next thing you saw was my head and arms popping up as I was crawling up over the edge dragging my bike along (it would have been thoroughly impossible to jump back on my bike and ride it up that without going backwards on the trail to get some momentum). Stump - you ain't got nothing on me...

But it was a good learning race. The second run I was dealing with the nerves WAY better than I have in the past, riding faster and smoother and pushing it more (obviously). And I realized that for the most part I need to push it harder still - 99% of the corners I felt absolutely rock solid on - which means I can go a lot faster through those sections. (My performance off the drop had nothing to do with speed - I just crossed up my front wheel for some unknown reason and landed like that and shot off into the bushes... )

Anyway, I finished 3rd. Meh. Would have probably had at least 2nd if I didn't wreck right before the finish line - that was a massive time waster. Nice to see so many people (and women) racing this time - first race I've ever been at where they closed registration because they reached the max # of racers the BLM allowed (100). Last year we had about 60.

But hey - first race back after knee surgery and I felt good and had fun, so it's all good.

Congrats Connie. And well TRed Stump.

Anyone hear anything about the Mill Creek Pipeline Trail getting some "maintenance" this weekend? Apparently, the Forest Service drove a trailcat between Church Fork and Birches and widened and flattened the trail. Apparently, they even took out the sections of pipe that were left there. I wonder if too many uphill hikers complained about bombing mtn. bikers.

I don't think it was anything out of the ordinary - it was National Trails Day where you're supposed to go out and do trail maintenance. They do it every year - I'm sure it was someone's idea of improving it. And since Millcreek is the only thing open to dogs, it's stupid crowded all the time and so close to town - there are always people complaining about everything there... so who knows.

We were watching it on TV and I was commenting on how it sucks that they plan a race that weekend, every year (plus there was another major race at Angelfire this weekend), which takes a big number of mountain bikers out of helping with something that gets a lot of positive visibility.

    Forecast for Park City:

"Tuesday. Mostly cloudy with showers and thunderstorms likely. Highs at 8000 feet in the upper 40s. Chance of showers and thunderstorms 60 percent."

Hmmm... time to break out the winter riding gear. How would 11am be? Meet at the PCMR parking lot and ride Spiro, etc?

I-Street dries about 35 seconds after it stops raining .

I'd planned to go on a XC ride today, but it's looking like everything will be wet. I wonder if I can even remember how to ride trails anymore.

Sounds good but let's keep an eye on the weather and maybe do something down here if it's gonna be that freakin cold in Park City. Maybe a city creek to bobsled and down or a city creek to dry creek or a tower ride or a I don't give a damn just tell me where to be ride. If bags comes I think we need to make him carry all our gear on the climb to try and even things up a little. The guys a machine when he's climbing and really damn fast on the downhill as well!

I would love to do a midmorning ride, but don't think I can ditch work for it because I'm gonna be out of the office from Wednesday til next Tuesday. This is probably a good thing, as my twisted ankle and bruised ego need some time to recuperate anywhos.

Sweet of you to say. Skibe's a sleeper. He talks about how out of shape he is, but he's never far behind.

Unfortunately, I'm most likely out for tomorrow. I just got a call, and they're sqeezing me in for a Ph monitor tomorrow. I'll check w/ the doc, but I'm pretty sure I can't ride 'til Wedensday.
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

    Bummer.

That's Mr.AG's tactic. "I'm really tired and my bike weighs a ton and I haven't ridden much lately and have to start out really, really slow..." as his voice is fading because he's sprinting up the first hill and getting too far away to hear.

Yeah - we'll look at the weather. Cold(er than usual) and a little drizzle I don't mind. The downpour this morning - that'd be a no...
