There's an "off road" switch in every rental car. It's the skinny pedal on the right.

I bought a 15 Outback and love it. I got the medium level trim. I test drove the Rav4 and thought it had no character at all and drove like a shoebox on wheels. No road feel behind the wheel. No response. No power. just blah!
Love the Outback. Good mileage, good ground clearance, good cargo space. AWD was great this year in the mid Atlantic snow. Only complaint is the seats, because I came out of a leather Volvo S40. A couple sheep skins and a break in period defiantly helped.
Same note on the '15 Forester XT Premium. The seats absolutely suck. I dig the car and will keep it for a long time, but I recently rode in a tricked out '15 Explorer and couldn't believe how shitty my Forester's seats are in comparison.
I have a 14 Forester 6MT Premium and it is a great car. Nice shift action, easy to drive, good clearance. I also don't find the seats to be the most comfortable.
Good to hear Subaru has fixed their manual transmissions. The 5MT in my mom's 13? Forester is like trying to stir a vat of melted butter with a rope.
I can confirm the Caravan's burnout capability. I've verified this in both the black and silver models, so nice consistent results. I also determined that, with some practice, a foot parking brake is just as effective as a hand brake.
I always liked the clunky feel of a Subaru MT.
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.
I will consider a Honda Element for my next car. My wife has started bringing her bike to work for lunch time rides. She locks it on back with double cables, but that doesn't feel very safe even in a safe location. Would be nice to have a car that a bike can be rolled upright into the back without removing a wheel.
In other words, everyone's got their own shit to deal with.
However many are in a shit ton.
My dad is a retired exec at one of the big rental car gigs who ran their global rental operation for 10 years. I can't speak for Enterprise but generally buying a used rental car is a good idea. High mileage typically but impeccable service records and some level of certified pre-owned. One drawback is most cars have only basic options. No leather etc.
My sister just got an XV at a dealership in Colorado Springs that was lowest $ anywhere, even lower than her industry hookup.
Buying used is the route I would go for any car. Different entirely but I just got a '12 Volvo XC90 for the same $ as my sister's new XV. Drives amazingly like a car and fits everything. No box needed for the first time in years.
The CRV's limitation on torque to rear diff is a well documented issue. Honda responded last year with reprogramming but apparently doesn't make much difference. But yeah, even a mostly front wheel drive + good tires + good driver is usually enough. I'll stick with Subaru or 4WD trucks but I often drive in deep snow.
When is the Benny jerkin off at Subaru dealership gonna be released?
Release the tapes!

I want a diesel plug in levorg. I also want to threesome with Serena and Kim. Here's hoping.

Zoolander wasn't a documentary?
Just a heads up for the car renters out there. Backing a car over a 3 foot concrete abutment isn't covered under the extra insurance.
This thread is not as interesting as the trucks thread, or the car porn thread, or the overland expedition build thread, or just about any car thread. I'm just going to start skipping these threads that start with subaru, or cr-v, etc... Just buy one it doesn't matter which, they all suck and are boring.
Good morning to you all.

I thought the Subaru-CR-V issue was put to bed and we seamlessly transitioned into debating the merits of making a rental car your daily driver?
On that note I submit that renting a gray Dodge Charger will add at least an hour to any drive. Polish roadblocks magically appear in front of you and everyone suddenly drops their speed to 55mph as they think you're a state trooper getting ready to pull them over.
It's like driving a shitty cop car with none of the benefits.
I still call it The Jake.
Ditto, we bought a 14 Forester new and the seats fell like they took them out of an airliner. Other than that the car has been rock solid and dirt cheap to operate for the first 35k miles. Keep checking the oil though!
Damn, we're in a tight spot!
No matter what AWD car you buy, just get the one with the center console e-brake! Absolute control in the snow with that set up.
Agreed, this thread is boring as fuck. Subaru has really dropped the ball IMO. No more turbos in the lineup except for the WRX and STI, and you can't even get those in the hatchback anymore. No manual transmissions except in the WRX and STI, I guess that's just about every manufacturer any more though. The current and last generations of Outbacks are hideous and huge. The Crosstrek looks cool and has decent clearance but is gutless as fuck. Meh.
There's nothing better than sliding down snow, flying through the air
Thanks for quoting me so I would come back into the boring thread. Perhaps the op might like this, I hear there are great deals to be had... I saw this today, Nissan murano convertible.
