Most of the food in Chinatown sucks. House of Nanking is the best place to eat in that area, but for the real SF food experience, you have to go to Tu Lan at 6th and Market. Amazing Vietnamese food in the crummiest hole of a diner you can imagine. (Walk down Market unless you like porn and crazy drunks.)
Gatip Thai, on Lombard just before you bend right to go to the Golden Gate Bridge, is an excellent stop if you're heading back to Marin. Get the drunken duck and thank me later.
The Clement Street strip (between Arguello and Presidio) is good fun during the day: this is where the real Asian people eat and buy stuff, as opposed to Chinatown, which is for the tourists.
If you are a serious foodie, anywhere between 16th and 24th on Valencia will do you fine. Go two blocks over to Mission for all the taquerias you can handle (I like Taqueria San Jose, but they're all good). Go another block to Capp for street blowjobs.
