    Question Bay Area Mags!!!!

Hey bay area mags. I'm on vacation! I'm up in MarinCo visiting family. I forgot how much I love SF. I've been in CO too long. The bay area rocks! I just don't know what to do in it and all that. I can make it into the city or wherever public transportation goes. Suggestions? During the week my cousins are in school and my family at work. If anyone wants to meet up during the week I'm down to meet some west coast mags!

PS. I'm sorry that I didn't hang out with any BC mags on my Canada leg. I was on the tiny island of Quadra... not an easy place to get to/from.

Don't buy an SF sweatshirt. The beaches in Marin are really amazing - Stinson, up by Bolinas, etc. The embarcadero is always nice - if you're here on a Saturday theres a market with really good food at the ferry building (to eat as well as to buy). possibly unfeasible, but you could rent a mtbike and ride around marin (?). Dunno if you sail, but you're in one of the world's top places to sail in one of the best months for it (it was blowing like stink today and the windsurfers were eating it up out by chrissy field). have fun while you're here

....just got back from running the Marina Green and through Crissy Field....one bitch of a headwind this evening.

Hike up/down the dipsea trail on Mt. Tam,
Get your rental car stolen in the Mission,
Go to a "booth" on Polk and O'Farrell,
    SFMOMA,
    Metreon,
Cum shop with SuPu, Greydon Clark, and myself in the Cathstro,
    Walk the GG Bridge,
Go see one of your fav bands (at least one will be playing when you're here)
    Drive to Alpine or Squaw,
    Go to Sausalito, Tiburon,
    Drink Peets Coffee,
....and do all that while sitting in traffic

Damn, family in Marin and spending time on Quadra... could easily be me!

Go hiking around in the Marin Headlands. Bring a windbreaker and some binocs. Then go surfing at Cronkhite, Stinson, Bolinas, RCA, or somewhere. Bouldering at Turtle Rock (these footholds are Schist!!) and Split Rock in Tiburon.

I second the suggestion of hiking the Dipsea trail, near Stinson beach. Stay away from the Matt Davis trail, it's dry and boring. If you want to make a day out of it, go to the "Dipsea restaurant" in the morning for some FKN amazing pancakes. It's in Mill Valley before you get to Stinson.
Also, you HAVE to hit up House of Nan King(sp?) near Columbus for dinner. Family owned chinese restaurant, you go in(after waiting in line), and tell them to bring you "whats good"<-- The place is incredible.
If you happen to luck out and get a Mt. Bike, go to Camp Tamarancho and poach some single track from the Boy Scouts

I second making sure that you don't buy a San Francisco sweatshirt. You can always tell the tourists who show up in SF thinking that it actually gets warm there. The perfect solution to this mistaken belief is, of course, the SF sweatshirt. The sight hordes of sweatshirt-clad tourists waiting for the cable car is amusing, though.

    Thanks for the tips guys!

It's OK. I came prepared with my TGR sweatshirt that SheRa got me (very nice. I've worn it here and in CA with good need)!

So I talked my Aunt into the Dipsea trail tomorrow but we only have limited time so we were thinking of going in from the Muir Woods parking area up to and maybe a little past Cardiac Hill. Is that where the best views are on the trial?

We might go for a drive up the ridge on Tam for views too if the fog doesn't hit.

(so far I've been around little Italy, up that towers, around the new ferry building, to Fog City, Yankee Pier, and to Muir Beach) I think I was last in SF 9 years ago (I'm in W Corte Madera now)!!!

go visit my old HS... it's just down the street from you. If you've got rock shoes and are into that sort of thing, then aside from my previous suggestions of Turtle and Split there is kickass bouldering on the south edge of Stinson beach...just go at low tide and be prepared to land in soft sand. See a show at Sweetwater in Mill Valley.

No rock shoes unfortunately. Just Tevas and hiking boots. What HS? My cousin is probably going there now

Friday, a group of us are blocking traffic in opposition to the war in Iraq. If you hold my hand while lying in the intersection of Market and 3rd I’ll buy you a beer at the Eagle Tavern.

    That'd be Redwood HS.
Robin Williams and Gabrielle Carteris are two notable graduates.

Redwood is where she goes! She's a Junior there.

I hiked part of Tamalpais Dipsea trail on your suggestions. It was very nice. We were short on time so we just did a five mile hike from Muir Woods to past Cardiac Hill. Didn't have time for a full ten mile hike plus the beach would have been cold today. The redwoods and mossed over lush forest were quite nice even in the fog. It cleared up enough for a nice view from Cardiac Hill.

We did drive the rest of the Panoramic and Pantoll ontop of Tamalpais but it started to rain so we drove down to Rt 1 for a great drive back south. Very pretty. Good advice! Thanks guys!

Greydon... I can't hold your hand... I just don't think you're the right guy for me but I'll take you up on a beer!

Chaps would definitely be appropriate at the Eagle. Things are super hectic for me this week (Slim, I'm note cool, just a procrastinator), but if anyone else rallies the masses--at a more hetero bar than the Eagle--I’ll try to make an appearance.
