When the wind is right my office tower is in the flight path for Dobbins AFB which means I get so see some pretty cool stuff flying over/approaching from time to time and I like using flightracker to see what they are, if their identity isn't hidden. I just looked out of my windows hearing a large jet and see a friggin Eastern Airlines jet flying overhead. I thought EAL died back in the early 90s?!?

Quick google shows that someone bought the airline out of bankruptcy and now operates it, but why would an Eastern Airlines Flight be heading to an Air Force Base?

They film Stranger Things around here, so maybe this is just part of the plot?

Pan Am still exists as a pilot training facility in Miami. It's not a whole lot different from Boeing or Flight Safety, but there are a lot of cool historic photos, models, etc.

There are some execs still out at Green-Wood Cemetery trying incantations, potions, and small animal sacrifices to revivify Juan Trippe.

    Two things learned today!

So, we lose a Pan Am, and gain a Spirit?

I used to have conferences on the tenth floor of University Hospital in Tucson. We used to watch pairs of A10s out of Davis Monthan AFB doing practice sorties over the city. Very cool although no live ammo. DM is also where they mothball old war planes, so the country built an air museum. It was long enough ago that you could explore a B17 and talk with a docent who had flown missions in one in WWII.

I saw an Evergreen sticker on a car recently. Not sure if it was a joke.

^ Kind of interesting, makes me want to avoid any airline gate where all the men are wearing hoodies and the women are wearing stretch pants. Is there a dress code for Spirit passengers?

Funny you should mention that. Spirit announced a few weeks ago that it was revising and enforcing its dress code. I guaranty that in the near future you will see footage on IG, or worldstarhiphop if that's still a thing, of a gate agent getting curb stomped in ATL when they tell someone wearing a thong and fish net top that they can't get on the plane.

    LOL @ ISBM.
I've flown Spirit once when I was in a jam on vacation and needed to return to ATL and back in a day and didn't want to drop $2500 on Delta to do so. I think all in I paid about $150 round trip and it is very much a flying Waffle House.

The gate agents all but pat you down to make sure you aren't trying to sneak past a carry on that you didn't pay for. I think they get a commission or something if you have to pay extra at the gate for something you did not pre-pay for. The flight attendants on the plane talk to the cabin like your worst school teacher.

Condescending and not taking any shit. I kid you not, the woman on my flight to ATL told the cabin that if they did not sit down when they are told to sit down, and follow every instruction, she would make sure the entire flight paid the price for your shit - turn the entire flying greyhound against you - savage shit.
It truly is a tense flying experience with the feeling that a yelling match could erupt at any moment among the passengers. You can spot the passengers who are counting the minutes until its over as easily as you can identify those who just want someone to try them that day.

I had no issues on my flight aside from a woman being yelled at for not having her tray table up before takeoff (she had the entire McDonalds menu resting on there), but I'll never fly Spirit again; you just can not push aside the feeling that someone was going to start something out of frustration for not being able to deal with being told what to do or not getting to do whatever the hell they think is acceptable behavior on an airplane.

A plane filled with Altima drivers is a horrifying thought.

Do you like movies about gladiators?

There are few hours of the day/night I haven't been in a Waffle House. Some amateur tried to rob one in broad daylight while my colleagues and I were attempting to cure our hangovers. The regulars made quick work of that situation.

I would take a Waffle House shift manager over a Spirit Airlines flight attendant if the shit went down, but it would be really close.

And, surprisingly, all of them are driving with a donut spare on at least one wheel.

You cant do 80mph on the shoulder of a highway with tag applied for written on cardboard taped to the rear window in regular tires. The donut spare is there for added speed if not to keep the entire operation in balance.

ETA this whole cant use quotation marks or apostrophies without it turning into unreadable garbage is getting old to a pedant like me.

It seems to work fine until you try to edit your post, which I seem to do much more often than I would have thought before this became an issue.
